1749....Would this work? Help

Featured Replies

Rite my turbo popped the other day and I have been exploring the possibilities as what I should do about replacing it. It has had a replacement turbo at some point before I owned it because where the lower boost pipe connects to the turbo it doesn't have a push on connected and wire clip like its ment to have instead the rubber pipe just slides on and a jubilee over the top...strange. Any way could I get one of the 1749 CHRA cartridges off THEbay and put a 1749 cold side housing I have spare at home over it? Would this fit inside my kkk waste gate and what not in my standard manifold?

Thanks very much if you all can shed some light on it

I'll start off by saying I know very little about turbos.

I thought building a turbo ment it had to be balanced and setup which is the expensive and hard bit.

if I bought a brand new cartridge wouldn't that be already balanced? Sorry hope this comment doesn't come access and being cocky

Again I don't know that much about turbos past the basics, but even though it is new I still think you need to get it balanced etc.

when you buy a complete cartridge they come pre balanced so normally yo just pop them in and away you do, but find out why your turbo went pop first! they don't go pop for no reason. clogged oil feed lines, dirty oil, rubbish in the intake gains stuck loads of thing, look up x-man on here he had turbos for sale all the time

I'd imagine if it was as simple as dropping in some new internals for £100 most people would do it.

My turbos failed so I'm taking the sump off to clean, remove the oil pickup from the sump and clean all that, running an engine cleaner you add to the oil, replacing the oil feed pipe to the turbo and doing an oil and filter change.

Inlet manifold is also being removed and cleaned, as well as all the intercooler and pipe work.

One of the blades on the wheel in the cold side had broke off so I'm guessing it had sucked something through
