DPF done ? How do I tell ?

LOL no need to get hostile guys. :-)

"What kind of loony sits on the drive revving the nuts off his car for TWENTY minutes?    From the way you have written your post I guess you weren't sitting there patiently whilst peacefully admiring the spring flowers in your garden ..".

OK sunshine listen and strain yourself to read and understand this.   Where does it say I sat there revving the nuts off my car??

The car was doing the revving on its own--I thought I was supposed to let it get on with it. Switching off in the middle is to be avoided I have read.

Read that again if you did not get it first time.

Why do you guess I wasn't sitting there patiently?    I said I raised the revs to 3000 and released and it settled down to 750.

Take your time read it again.  Did you get it??  Give up with the guessing  it takes brains.   Don't bother replying.

OOPs!!

Maybe there were not enough :giggle:  in my post to let you realise it was a tongue in cheek attempt at humour.

Calm down - I owe you a pint.

The DPF assumes that the driver isn't aware of it's presence.

For the vast majority of owners a raised RPM at the end of a journey wouldn't worry them. They would turn off the engine and forget about it. This is what the DPF assumes you will do. This halts and resets the regen process. It will only start again when the parameters are once again met.

The DPF won't be able to complete the regen on tick-over, even with the increased RPM.

Next time it would be best just to turn off the engine and put the DPF out of its misery.

The only additional noise during a DPF regen should be from the higher engine RPM. Any extra noise over and above a slightly raised RPM suggests an  issue / fault that needs investigating further.

Thank god i bought a petrol engine

...Switching off in the middle is to be avoided I have read...

Not sure where you read that, but it's not true.

If you switch off, it will have another go when the conditions are correct and will probably take less time to do.

Raising the revs whilst stationary has no effect on the regen, as there will be insufficient exhaust flow.

The revs don't drop immediately after the 'burn off' phase of the regen.

Just caught up with this thread.  I've been away----completely--no papers, internet, phone.

I apologize to everyone especially Eccleshill for my outburst on 20 May. Not good when people are trying to help.

I value this Forum.
