Car dead just turns over 2010 vrs any advice please?

Featured Replies

Came to start the car this morning. Strange noise and just turned over and would not attempt to start. Turning over all sounds fine so hope not another tsi engine failure.

Scanned it with vcds and it said something about pressure regulator valve. I stupidly pressed clear codes by mistake and can't get it to come back.

Any ideas please as stuck with a 1 yr and 3 yr old with no car to take them anywhere to keep them quiet :(. Gonna call AA or the equivalent of where I am

Grrrrrrr

Petrol or Derv? Prolly a battery, do the headlights dim or go out when starting? Any MIL light on? Prolly duff battery.

Petrol. Don't think its battery. It turns put does not seems to engage the starter motor gear to the crank. It's been driven away on an AA lorry to Skoda.

I hope its not another timing chain/tensioner problem. it seems to be the 2010 models that are most affected.

Me too:( but when turning the key it feels like the starter motor not engaging onto the engine. So hoping its starter motor. But yes that tensioner is in the back of my mind :(

Ummm but you did'nt get the usual codes coming up with VCDS. What did the AA say? Did they check for compression? Do you have any warranty or purchased the car new? FMDSH?

Sounds like the engine is turning and compressing ok to me - no ignition or no fuel but no fault code. Very curious.

There was at first until I was. Muppet. Don't know number but fuel pressure regulator I think it said. The rac just towed it. Said sounded like starter not throwing out to crank engine just turning

A hammer would have been my tool of choice  :bandit:

Any news on this?

Nope it is sitting outside a Skoda dealer. So will call them later tomorrow. The only fault was the fuel pressure regulator but not sure that would stop everything, unless you can tell me otherwise.

Just been told it's the engine.

It's your engine...

In first ,inlet valves, intake valves with complete cylinder head,no compression in engine and noise

Maybe more:

Pistons,crankshaft,connecting rod

= complete engine

Is this a timing chain tensioner? I think it sounds like it. Those that have had this did you call Skoda uk customer services.

Yep, this definitely sounds like the tensioner. The symptoms were very like mine when the tensioner failed.

Best thing at this point is to get in touch with SUK customer services as that will get your problem registered. It is also useful if the dealer doesn't seem to be working at a reasonable rate.

How long out of the warranty is the car? Does it have a full service history?

Good luck

They say the tensioner is fine. Which seems strange. Full service in uk it's 1 year out of warranty but has not done 40k yet.

All the threads say similar when this happens.

If it's not timing chain tensioner what else could cause such a huge engine failure which throws out all the timing of the engine if valves etc are screwed?

Trouble is I am in Belgium for a year so it's a little more tricky

On mine, the tensioner didn't actually break.

What happens is that overnight the tensioner looses pressure and then retracts when the engine spins. The retraction causes the chain to go slack and that jump on one or both of the cams. This causes the valve to be out of sync with the crank and pistons meet valves with some force. When I looked at the damaged head, all 8 inlet valves were jammed!

Just looking at the tensioner won't show a fault.

I need to go and see them I think. How much did you pay please?

I was incredibly lucky as it failed 9 days before the warranty ran out, so it cost me nothing.

I have heard that SUK are pretty good at making a contribution though if you talk nicely to them.

On this forum there doesn't seem to be a fixed price for a replacement engine. The price seems to be from about £5K upwards.

Could you please post brief details of your car and the damage diagnosed so far in the thread below.

With the benefit of hindsight it was unfortunate that you deleted the error code since this was needed for the subsequent workshop diagnosis. When diagnosing 'damage of timing chain tensioner', the workshop looks for the following fault (sic) stored in the engine control unit:

00022 P0016 MP sensor -G40 Engine Speed (RPM) Sensor - G28 Incorrect Allocation

00808 P0328 Knock Sensor 1 - G61 Circuit High

Do either of those codes look familiar to you?

Have done. Still awaiting the Belgium Skoda dealer report but will have to get it taken back to UK for any Skoda good will which they said they probably would do but could not guarantee.
