angle sensor question - vRS upgrade rack?

Featured Replies

Hi

I know the later Fabia angle sensor is different to the earlier ones as the plug is right on the sensor but early ones have long wire to the pump

In theory could a newer sensor go in an older rack if the wiring was cut and shut on the loom from the older sender? It seems to be only 3 wires.

It's only the physical sender I'd be worried about not actually plugging in to the rack and doing it's job.

I'm sure i've seen people report issues with getting the incorrect sensor type in the past, that said I also seem to remember them being able to physically plug it in so if all that changed was the pin out's on the types then as long as you connected them up to the corresponding sections on the loom and solder/heatshrink/resin the joints then I don't see a problem unless a physical difference exists.

The rack is different.

The earlier system uses a single hall sensor 'fan blade' and the later ones use a twin blade for a better signal. They cannot be swapped accross.

Thanks.

If I wanted to swap to the later rack as well would I also need the p.a.s pump you think? I do wAnt to change as getting fed up of this rack getting water behind the angle sensor after prolonged rain. :(

Starting to think as I have the vRS front end complete already, it would make sense to fit the rack and PAS pump to match the rest of the car.  I'll make this my long term goal over the summer I think.
