remapped vrs; expected clutch and turbo lifespan?

Featured Replies

So,

I'm getting my vrs mapped in the next few weeks,

Car has done 71k how long can I expect the clutch and turbo to live? Or is it a case of how I drive it?

I think from many, many threads it's just pot luck if you're on the standard turbo - remap or not.

Ahh, if it goes its just an excuse for me to get a gtb

It's a combo of pot luck and looking after it.

As above, it's one of those 'How long is a bit of string?' type questions.

I mapped mine on 112K, clutch started slipping by 112,300K, stopped driving like an utter t**t and i'm still going strong at 132k.  Comes down to pot luck and driving style.

my car only only gets used on the motorways really with minimal round town miles being down, it does get blast over the moors once or twice a month when my friends and i go for an early morning run, so hopefully it should last me a few months till i can get a sachs or helix smf put in

I had a standard 1.9tdi mapped at 55k - gave it to my son and it now has 113k - no issues

My vRS SE mapped at 50k - now has 95k - no issues

Both these cars are driven hard daily so I to think it is really down to luck

If you don't want it to slip get the mapper to limit the torque to around 270-280 FtLb's instead of going for the full fat 300+, will help a lot. And don't boot it under 2.5k

Blew stock clutch at 33k miles on stage 1 remap

So your guess is as good as mine

Like most cars its simply down to how you drive if you are the boy racer type that do racing wheel spin starts and drive flat out in every gear then expect quite a shortened life. But drive using common sense then there is no reason for the car to have a very long life with or without a remap.
