Fabia 1.9TDi alternator needed...

Featured Replies

Hi. I noticed that the interior lights were a bit flickery when I sat in the car today with the engine running. The car has had an intermittent steering wheel alarm on the dash and reading up on that fault it seems that the alternator can go bad and give that alarm. Anyhow, I suck my meter across the battery and I am getting voltages between 13.25 and 14.5 in a random cycling with the engine at about 1500 RPM. I can therefore assume that the alternator is fubarred and needs replacing. As we seem to be having much other spending on the car at the moment I am looking for a good, working, used replacement alternator to stick on there to make sure that it is in fact, the cause of the steering wheel alarm.

Does anyone have a good one that is for sale to fit our car please and if so are you near me (Kettering, Northants) or will you post it to me?

Looking forward to your replies...

Could be just the regulator have alternator checked.

Hey,

Have you thought about refurbishing it?

If your looking for a used alternator, as I don't know which one is for your car, I cannot post a link, but you may wish to check out SRS automotive's (part of Darkside) ebay shop, they have a few on there.

I found them recently and they've saved me twice this week!

Hope you get it solved.

Hi and thanks for the advice. I did pop down to my local garage for them to check my diagnosis and they just said that the alternator was shot and needed replacing. I guess that I probably need to take it to an auto electrician though...

Lights flickering and steering warning light could also be angle sensor failing, has the power steering ever cut out?

Not sure about it cutting out, lad is at work in it at the moment. It did have a leak from the rack, which seems to have gone when we had some snake oil introduced that is supposed to cure the leak, which it appears to have done....

I am guessing that I need to get it into a garage that actually know what they are looking for?

Thanks for the reply :)

Before you go anywhere, if you have access to a laptop or netbook buy a £6 vcds lead and download the free version of vcds lite then read the fault codes. If you pull a 01290 code then read up on the angle sensor.

Thanks for your advice, I have just ordered a cable and shall download the software once it arrives.

Sounds more like angle sensor than alternator to me. Not a cheap part to replace. :(

If u do need an alternator give me a pm as i have one that came off a vrs i broke. It was new a month before the car was written off + i have the receipt + warranty ;)

I took the car to a local VW/Skoda Independent garage this morning and they tested it out and confirmed that the alternator is shot. Need to get one now. PM sent Mattvrestate.

OK so the lead has arrived, where do I go to download the free version of VCDS lite please?
