Drive shafts

Featured Replies

I suspect my passenger driveshaft is on its way out, so I have a few questions.

1. Is it worth replacing both at the same time?

2. Where's the best place to get them that isn't extortionate?

3. Is there a performance/ upgraded oil/ fluid to replace the standard gearbox oil?

Thanks

No need to change them both unless you cant pinpoint which side its coming from

Best off getting a used shaft if u dont want to pay silly prices. Ebay/ breakers/ Bossfox ;)

The gearbox oil wont come out as you change the shaft as they are sealed (All VAG are) none of this french/ American crap lol. If you do want to change the oil then your best off getting it from Skoda. They have replaced the oil that was used with an upgraded oil (superceeded) that was designed to reduce a common noise on the 6 speeds. So although it will have the same part number with maybe a different letter at the end it is an upgrade on whats in your gearbox atm :)

You can get a shaft cheaply enough from ECP but a genuine shaft is way more expensive, I have a place near me that offers a drive in drive out strip/powder coat/rebuild service and in hind sight i'd probably go that route but desperation had me spending £48 on a ECP version. If I had time i'd have had the genuine shaft rebuilt personally as it was still in very good condition and budget versions tend to be re-grind's and depending on how well that's done balance on the shaft can be an issue.
