Audi A4 1.8TSE Quattro????

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Am looking a buying one of these A4's to replace my stolen octy VRS, and was wondering what the general opinion of them was. I took one for a test drive at the weekend and really liked it. The only thing was that the engine was the 160 (?) ps model, which was a bit slow for the size and weight of the car.

Has anyone, or knows anyone that has re-mapped one of these? What would be the realistic performace gains with a re-map on it's own?

Sorry it's not a Skoda question, but don't know where else to ask!!

Also, can the 1.8T engine be converted to LPG? How much does it cost and what are the draw backs?

Thanks all for the advice.

Sorry forgot to mention, it's an 02 plate with 45K on the clock.

Cheers again

163 bhp.Nice cars.Latest ones have 190+ bhp from the 1.8T.

My mate has an 04 s-line 190hp. It is okay, but it feels heavy and slow, but as a car feels lovely to be in quality fit, finish and build. I am convinced you would have to remap it to make it feel more like the 3.0 V6. It is very juicy also !

The best thing is my mate was being driven by his mate in the A4 and 't-boned' a transit at around 70 mph. The car had

i have the s-line quattro version of the A4. it has 190bhp. performance is Ok, tbh its pretty close to a standard octy vRS in 0-60 and top speed. as Andy says if feels heavier in reality the kerb weights of it and the octy arent vastly different tbh but my s-line has the sports susp and it out handles my octy by far.

i think you will find the 163ps a little underpowered but im sure they remap to what an octy vRS would.

be warned the SE model will have much softer susp than the octy as its not a sport model.

the build quality is brilliant, everthing does feel of really good quality

Having owned a Skoda vRS and worked with Audi for 18 years -- If It was me I would look for a 190bhp model with the sports suspension - as Kenny said the SE has softer suspension - which won't cope as easily if you do get it chipped.

From my experience with my vRS I would strongly recommend the Milltek sports cat and system - the difference this makes to even a non-chipped car is quite amazing - revs much more freely and gives a nicer sound without being too much.

Build quality of the Audi will be better than the Skoda simply because of the higher quality plastics used - but I still think Skoda offer better value for money.

If it was me I would try and wait for a new vRS with the 2.0 TFSi Engine - 200 BHP sounds great and drives great ( In the A4 anyway!)

i guess the big bennefit of the A4 the quattro will handle the 200bhp + better :)

Cheers all for your thoughts. I understand what your saying about the suspension being better on the sport. Going to try and look at a sport on Friday.

Would like to wait for the new VRS, but I don't think it's going to be 4WD and plus can't afford it. (Budget is

i have had mine for nearly 4 months now, changing from my remapped octy was hard on the speed front but everthing else the A4 does better tbh and thats why i changed. i really wanted 4wd as up here in scotland getting the octys 200bhp+ down was very difficult and winter is interesting too ;)

i really would recommend the A4 i dont regret changing one bit. the 190bhp one i have like i said above is very similar to the standard vRS. getting it remaped will solve your worries about performance too
