Fabia vrs on ebay with gearbox problem stay away or worth a look

Featured Replies

Hi im interested in buying a fabia vrs on ebay in the add it says it has a problem with down shift to fourth should I stay away and buy one for a bit more money with no issues, Its a 54reg with 107k and fsh and single mass fly wheel conversion new mot long tax four new tyres factory rev parking assist it sounds good but will it need a new/second hand gearbox to sort the problem any help appreciated as ive always had octavias and don't know to much about the fabia thanks.

The boxes are rock solid (mine is still mainly stock @ 300hp+) so I would gamble personally on it maybe being a cables thing.  A gearbox oil change might work too.

However, even if it needs a box, they can be had for about £300 tops, and a few hours to swap.

Thanks for the reply I did think maybe a cable reset on the linkage and possibly a genuine gearbox oil change if I could knock a bit off the price it sounds good hopfully my Octavia vrs tfsi is being sold today damn its expensive to run its no cheaper than my old audi b5 s4 .

Resetting the gearbox linkage can make a massive difference.

I know of a member buying a car cheap with a "gearbox problem". Fixed it on the drive in front of the previous owners and driving off without a problem, simply by resetting the linkage :)

the gearbox I bought from a member on here years ago and it has a problem. 3rd to 4th is fine. 5th to 4th it will not go in, no grinding or crunching. However pushing slightly into 3rd the back in to forth solves it.

Im not bothered at all as within 60 seconds of getting in it I drove around the problem. been like that for 3-4 years now.

I did the same thing with a Corsa C. The owner changed the clutch but though he'd f**ked the box somehow doing it as it didnt like going into gear and was crunchy. I won it on ebay as it had a 'gearbox' problem. Went there with a small handfull of tools and a drill bit. With 5 mins i'd fixed the gearbox problem and drove away from a slightly upset ex-Corsa owner mwhahaha.

Always worth a punt for the right money dude.
