Switch out the driver seat?

Featured Replies

Hi

I have a Superb MKII as a taxi, and although the car is excellent, there driver seat is not quite up to par. It's pretty perfect as long as you don't drive for hours every day, but when you do, it strains the back.

Would it be an easy job to switch the drivers seat for a mercedes or volvo seat?

I am thinking both about the fastening of the seat on the rail or rails to the car, and powering of the seat, heating, sensors etc.

Do you have lumbar support?  If not, you could try a seat from a higher spec Superb which may be more comfortable and less hassle to fit?

I suffer with back issues but I can easily do 6 hrs non stop in my Superb Elegance (electric seats) without issue.

If you were to swap the seat then I would either go for an Elegance one or a Recaro orthopaedic (with full electric adjustment) they are not cheap however, but the best rarely is.

I swapped my MKI Superb seat out for a Recaro and it was miles better.

I have the Elegance seat (I think). Full electric with lumbar support and 3 saveslots.

After doing some checks locally, my plan is to first check with the work-physician-service to see if the seat is used correctly.

I have bought a back-pillow as an imidiate fix.

If the seat is used correctly etc. I will probably get it stuffed with a little more material in the middle of the back section to make it a bit more flat so that less weight falls on the shoulders.

If all this fails, I will have to check out the Recaro.

Apparently it's a bit of ha hassle/papermill to exchange: I have not checked for sure, but I am pretty sure there are airbags in the seat, and that means that there are paperworks and possibly some reclassing etc. IOW - lots of red tape.

Don't forget the seat has an airbag and seatbelt pretensioner fitted to it.

I for one would not be putting any other kind of seat in the car unless it's designed for a Superb.

The electric seat will have much finer adjustment than the manual kind. I've always suffered with back and hip pain on long journeys in the past - NEVER in a Superb. The electric adjustment makes all the difference.
