multi cd player flooded.

Featured Replies

Hi all, my CD player stopped working last week. Took the unit out to fund the rear wash ( which was working) has been leeking. Joint / plug to CD was soaked. Not sure how long there has been water in that. Now dried out but no idea what I should do next.

Mk1 Octavia estate. By the way.

Is there a particular fuse I can check or is it a new CD unit?

Wow, cool. If you don't mind packing it up and sticking it in the post I'll cover your costs.

Let me know or estimate cost and I'll sort you out.

Cheers.

Actually, just to be clear, the head unit works fine in my car, it's the CD changer which is not working. The plug connection to the changer got soaked. So I assume the wiring is goosed.

yes you are clear I changed my head unit for one with a out put for my ipod the cd player is still in the boot so will remove asap and let you know when it is ready for posting will need a address my mobile no is 07703822145 my name is barry text me address

More than likely the rear washer pipe has popped its joint in the loom just under the CD changer.  It is a black tube bundled up in the rest of the loom, but it sounds like you have that sorted.

I would remove the changer, check the contacts are clean and shiny, and do the same for the plug on the loom before looking for a replacement unit.  It might be that gently rubbing them with a screwdriver will be enough to being it back to life.

Cheers Barry. Will let you know when it arrives. You'll have a weight saving now. Lol.

The washer pipe joint was the culprit alright. My rear wash squirt is just one direction, like a water pistol. Is that right? I think it might have been blocked and the pressure forced the joint???

I've reconnected the pipe and the spray the rear screen with such force it bounces straight off again. Should the spray plattern be the same as the windscreen or is thus right enough?

Many thanks.

On the estate, it is a single jet of water, but should hit the glass at an almost parallel.  You can twist the little bit jet where it sticks out of the high-level brake light a bit.  Or at least that is how it works on my TDi,  Not sure how the rear spoiler thing affects things on the vRS estate.

Generally when the jet freezes up that pipe under the CD changer is the first to pop.  Some people suggest tie-wrapping it, but that only means a different (ie. much harder to reach) joint will pop apart.
