A wheel dilemma?

Featured Replies

Hi all

My Elegance alloys (themisto) are starting to look a bit tatty. No physical damage but the surface is discoloured in places.

I have three options:

1. Buy 4 new wheels

2. Have them re- diamond cut, polished and lacquered

3. Have them powder coated

As option 1 and 2 work out an near the same price - one that SWMBO would never go for it leaves me with 'Do nothing' or option 3.

I realise powder coating is not going to give me the finish of a diamond cut wheel but can't help feeling it would look better that they do at the moment.

Has anyone out there gone for a power coat on these wheels and if so how did it look, what did it cost and do you have any photos?

Thanks

Martin

Mine arent diamond cut now

They have been refurbed at some time (just before I bought it)

At the side of vrsadz at Elsecar, we all agreed that mine looked better in the finish than his standard ones

You are right - those do look good.

You could try this. Will save you £££. If you don't like it just peel it off. Various colours available.

You don't have to powder coat, have them painted.

Paint allows for more colour choice, to get as close to the diamond cut effect you should go for the brightest silver available.

The Wheel Specialists are the Premier refurbishment company

I took mine to the branch in Garforth, Leeds

Leave them there for the day...Theres  a train station nearby to Leeds....return after work and they are done with tyres refitted and balanced

Mine were coated in Black Chrome..That would suit the Thermistos really well IMO

Heres mine:

They do look nice Chris

To bad you don't live in Norway.  My original 18" rims are collecting dust in the garage.

Have them sprayed, I had mine done and they look great, regardless of what is said spraying is a lot more robust than powder coating, powder coating chips alot easier and is harder to touch up as it is just a thick coat, when mine where sprayed they had a primer, 2 undercoats, 2 finish coats and a lacquer coat. Theres a pic of one on another thread.

Is that paint or powder coat?

Martin

Both...Powdercoat initially, then a light spray with Chrome and baked again
