Hi 

 

The engine light has come on (skoda fabia 2003) it is flashing, also the car is jolting and feels like it has lost alot of power

Needs scanning for fault codes.

 

Is it an MPI or 16 valve?

Flashing CEL indicates a misfire, a misfire means coil pack failure.

I'm playing the percentages and trying to help, not provide an exhaustive, confusing and frankly boring list of every conceivable fault which could cause said symptoms.

 

As stated, I'd start off by testing the coil pack(s). Frankly the OP has provided precious little information, so I'm guessing it's a petrol engine at the very least.
