HGF I'm sure of it.

Despite having used the car all day to work and back, I was just off down the vets with my wife, and just after setting off we saw the coolant/engine light.

It looks like the coolant is low - still visible but very low on the expansion tank, probably below min.

Dipstick, was black due for changing soon(ish) but now looks watery ! This was very recent, I've never lost oil/water like this before - how odd. Guess the gasket has perished internally somewhere.

Not smoking out the exhaust so its not like the HGF I once had on a Rover Sterling, that was a steam blow out !

Oh balls. Oh well this is the first major failure after 7 yrs (and not massive terminal failure even, if I choose too I guess I could risk driving it but won't) so can't grumble.

Unit 18 hopefully

Keep us updated :)

Also, I notice you're in Northants; don't suppose you've ever used The Lion Garage? I am in Northampton very often and was thinking of taking my car there when it needs servicing etc.

Unfortunately sorry I haven't, I had seen them on the web but know nothing about them

I have heard the following mentioned MJP but no experience of them myself, on this thread http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/230346-cupra-bushes-blissful-silence/

But I will happily leave my motor with Unit 18 if they can do the work for me.

( Would be useful to have closer options to compare against but if the price of assurance is this distance then fair enough. To be honest I'd have to go to Northampton otherwise for a dealer alternative and I bet for the cost of it wouldn't be worth it ).

I do have VW at the bottom of my street, wonder what they would quote but wouldn't be suprised if its at least £200 on top of what anyone else does for all the work I need ! I'm just about due the timing belt and ancillories so might as well chuck that on whilst anyone is looking at it.

Update:

Not HGF !! Result. Fabia continues to surprise me.

I had a look and its just a leak from somewhere around the header tank (suddenly), and it wasn't water on the dipstick, I think it was just the shock of the sensor kicking in and I hadn't left it long enough after shutting off so it was just oil splashed up the stick
