Hint: adding SMS ringtones to Galaxy S phones

Featured Replies

Morning all,

I have, on other forums, seen posts on whether it is possible to add MP3 files to Samsung Galaxy S phones and then use them as text message (SMS) ringtones. The other day I came up with an idea and found it worked when I managed to add an MP3 files - the SMS ringtone from a Nokia 8800 - into my list of notification tones. It can be done as follows:

1. Download the file, or email it to yourself. If emailing tap & hold to bring up an options list that should include an option to save to phone. When saved to phone a message should come up saying where the file has been saved to.

2. Return to your apps list. Scroll through to "My Files" and select it. Then select "All Files".

3. On the list of available folders, scroll down to "Downloads" and the file will probably be in there.

4. Hold down on the file and you should get an option somewhere on the screen - probably a menu on S3 and newer - to "Move" the file. Select this.

5. You should get a list of folders. Scroll down to, and open, the one marked "Notifications". Once that folder is open, select "Move Here" and the file should appear. The file should then appear in the list of available SMS ringtones if you have done things right.

Works on my Galaxy S3. Good luck: I hope this is useful.
