Correct CanBus

Featured Replies

Evening!

I have a 2005/55 Octy with the basic Stream stereo and would like to upgrade to the Bolero or Columbus unit. I'm aware I will need to change the CanBus Gateway to avoid the dredded battery drain so is this the correct one?

That does seem very cheap.

Two things:

Firstly that is a Chinese clone of the Skoda part. There was a discussion on here a couple of years back from a respected member thinking of buying something from a similar source.

The consensus seemed to be that they were probably made in the same factory...

Secondly, to retrofit a Columbus you don't have to change to CAN gateway. There is the possibility to update the firmware (to 3810) and apply a 'patch' that modified the firmware to overcome battery drain in pre-2007 Octavias.

Quite well documented on here, My Gti, VW Navi and GPS Underground sites/forums.

Continental VDO gateways are made in the Czech Republic and not in China

The stickers are slightly different too

I picked up an AF for £50.

Item location: confirmed as Coventry (postmark) and next day delivery.

Made in CZ :) :)
