Insurance renewal on my A8

Featured Replies

Pleasantly surprised, just got the renewal for my Audi A8 insurance. Usually I end up phoning and negotiating a lower price, but this time the renewal has beaten anything I can get elsewhere. The renewal figure for my 2004 A8 3.7 Quattro is just £192 for 12 months, with business use included.

Not far off, 46.

That's pretty good!

We are 28 and 30.

Ours was £309 with business use.

We could tell it's dropped as we were able to actually pay it in one go this year :)

I'm sitting here happy paying £650 for this years insurance with no claims or points and my mum and grandad as named drivers  , then i see people who can insure a 3.7 litre car for less than my VED is lol.

It might be your grandad increasing the premium depending on age. If I want to add my dad to my policy the premium increases dramatically, a few years ago it did the opposite but he is now in his 70s.

He still reduces me by around £80 for the year. My mum lowers it by around £150! I have prob saved around £2000 adding them since i started driving and they have never driven any of my cars lol.

That's how we do ours.

Last year Direct line beat everyone. This year they were beaten, but happily matched so renewed on the spot.

Shame they wouldn't/couldn't on the home insurance.

Direct line couldn't match other lower prices this year.

Plus their policy for European cover is awful. They wanted me to have to ring each time and pay a premiu every time.

Never fully checked it, but was sure you get upto 30days EU cover as standard. Not sure how it works, especially if you regularly go abroad for holidays or to visit family.

Yes we had cover but it was third party cover only!

Phil

That's the general thing now 30 days 3rd party only, paying extra for EU cover is generally to make it up to 90 days in the policy but tends to still be 3rd party only. All insurance policies sold anywhere in the EU now have to provide at least a min cover in all member states, so everyone has it just with different rules about how you can make use of it. As I live fairly close to the border with the Republic of Ireland I need to have open cover which doesn't require me to call as some roads the border zigzags over and you cannot help but enter another EU country. I can go to any EU country for up to 60 days at a time with no overall cap and not tell them in advance etc, but by gum do I pay for that cover!

Sorting out an accident in the fully comp sense is prob extremely expensive for an insurer if the car is in another country and possibly tied up in another legal system, varying repair costs in other countries and parts etc.

Didn't realise it was 3rd party only

Yeah I know. Was a bit shocked as we'd gone a few times already on the policy.

Now through Lloyds Bank Insurance and they provide the same level of cover in the EU as they do in the UK without the need to ring/extend the cover etc.

I used to use M&S's premium insurance for the same job full EU inc full EU break down and cover applied across all borders no need to inform on each trip. Cost me about 25% more than cheapest quote, but it's one of those thing's getting what you pay for and all that. Current one is a good bit more than I could have attained cover for :(

Best insurance ever was my Dutch company, covered me on all EU FC and loads of other countries on it too randomly inc Iran among many lolol

I quite often fancy a trip to Iran....

....listening to your Ipod on the way? :p
