Gearbox oil change - dealer will not do it

Featured Replies

Got a 1.9tdi 4x4 coming up on 100k and want to change the gearbox oil. Rang two dealers and the both are adamant it does not need done as they read off the fix schedule menu and it does not mention it. Both tried to say it was really the Haldex I needed done even though I explained it was serviced 20k ago. First dealer even said I needed my pads done wtf???? So no choice but to do it myself.

So can someone please confirm that GO52145s2 is the correct oil for the front diff/ptf.or is it the same as the gearbox  And if there is any pointers I would be grateful.

Thanks

I had the gearbox oil replaced on my 4x4 Scout at a Skoda main dealer only a few months ago.

Find another (better) dealer.

Who are the dealers? Its worth naming them, so others can avoid them as well, if they're not able to assist with basic servicing requests.

It might not be on the schedule, correct. Apparently it's termed as 'sealed for life'. But it's oil like any other, it ages and degrades. I changed mine at 70k and it made a significant difference to the quality and feel of the gearbox.

can't confirm the oil,   but on mine(GEN IV) haldex my '09 facelift  it's front and back diff oil(NOT Haldex (control) oil ) is not the same as gearbox,    I used Fuchs Titan Sintopoid FE 75w-85  >9lt front and .925 lt at the rear    as you may have seen elsewhere I've given up on VAG gear oil it may be the best IF you can figure out which one you need  (numbers always being "upgraded" and you can't trust the stealers only SKODA UK and they will need the gearbox number (on bellhousing)  something like 02 03 09 (looks like a date ) and it's done in punchmarks not cast in         hope this helps cheers Nic

P.s.    the plugs need a hex bit and are ally- hence a bit soft and of course tight   take care!!!!!

Definitely go with the VAG gearbox oil. I got mine from the VW dealer as they're 2 mins down the road from me.

I'll dig out the details.

as above best to go with proper VAG gearbox oil as from experience non VW gearbox oils may cause the change to be stiff and notchy when cold

I DIDN'T say I used non  VAG gearbox oil   just I shan't any more for the above reason--
