fabia 1.2 12v front disk issue

Hi,

 

picked up my brand new fabia 1.2 12v SE a few weeks ago now, done 1,100 miles in it and was giving it the once over today and noticed the inner part of the drivers side front disk is rusty, its about a 1cm diameter all the way around. the passenger side disk does not have this 'feature' I've attached a pic below. if this isn't right then i don't want to leave it too long so they can't claim wear and tear on it!

Sadly thats how they can go,

Sufrace rust on the non braking surface.

Even the Braking Surface might rust over night.

& clean off when you use the brakes.

 

There is no Wear & Tear, just the exact opposite.

 

You can just raise it with the Dealer, not much they can do.

 

I would get the Rear Drums painted before they are covered in rust as well.

Don't forget also the pads are tapered from new, so seeing as you haven't travelled far yet I suspect your pads are yet to make full contact on the disc.

Take a look at the pads and you'll see what I mean.

thanks for the replies, 

 

i know exactly what you mean, and when you look at it it dosnt look like it is making contact with the disk, its just odd that the passenger side isn't doing it evan though it has the same taper...

 

yeh i plan on painting the rear drums over the summer, I've read about how rusty they can get! 

 

if its normal thats fine, just don't want to give the dealer a get out if it isn't!

i might do that too, the top of the disk is rusty already! 

 

its just the inner ring i was bothered about, if it was the same on both sides i wouldn't bother but as its only on one side i just want to be sure its wearing correctly before its too late to fix it without costing me a set of disks and pads! 

 

i still find it odd that they don't actually paint the drums, just prime them

The Drums are just ridiculous. 

But you will see £30,000 plus VW's, Audis etc with discs corroding just the same, and calipers.

I have seen Rusting Discs on Skodas still in the Showroom unregistered.

(but there is alco a coating that needs worn off)

Hi,

 

nipped by the garage on my way past this afternoon and they had a look at it for me, they took the wheel off and removed some crud from in-between the pad and disk and al should be ok now!

Pagid discs are pre painted so this doesn't happen as much 

with them. Takes a good year and a half before rust starts to show

noticeably on those.

It's a Fabia, welcome to the world of rusty brake parts :giggle: . It's something you get used to, not usually detrimental  just a cosmetic issue. Had exactly the same issues on my Mk 1. The important thing with my current car is that the brakes work extremely well. :thumbup:

rest of the disk was shiny just the 1cm ring on the inner disk that clearly wasn't making contact with the pad as it wasn't clearing the rust off like the rest of the disk! ill keep any eye on it! 

 

im loving the car though, might not have that much power but it sounds good haha
