VRS 'switchable' options

Featured Replies

At 67 years old I bought a new VRS estate in February, and have not had as much fun since I gave up sex!! My son drove my car, loved it, flogged his Audi A4 S-line - and bought a VRS! - always listen, you youngsters, Dad ALWAYS knows best !!

Anyway - to the real question for all you experts - my son's car does not 'auto lock' the doors when you drive off - mine does, and he wants this for his. I beleive its a 'dealer can enable/disable option' - is this true? And - as a matter of interest - is there a list somewhere of all the 'options' that are available - I might want some myself!

Any advice, as ever, gratefully appreciated.

yes, you can change loads with a laptop... XDS settings weight of powersteering and brakes, ect ect ....

The dealer can do it, and will probably charge you an arm and a leg, OR you can come to a few meets, and meet a few people who have the "know how" ;)

and by the way/...... the estate is definatly the better looking ;)

If his car has Maxidot there is a setting for door locking (or not) at around 5mph.

on the octy yes, on the fabia no..... has to be done with VAGCOM or whatever the equivelent is now....

I feel you pain, I'm 31 and got married couple months ago, I got the vrs but struggling with handing issues, clothes on or off it just ain't happening, so frustrating lol...

on sensible note, agree with others posts, need to get mine pluged in to play as well, I asked my dealer couple months back and they had no idea, worryingly, so best find a member on here or a good vag specialist!!

Its called 'anti hi-jack'

Anybody with vcds can turn it on.

Have a search on the forum first to see if theres anything else that takes your fancy while your at it. Theres a few things you can do. One button unlock all doors, steering weight changes, unlock when key is removed from ignition etc etc.

I went to a specialist place to get mine done, they charged £30. I think thats about the going rate. Its about 10 minutes work if that

Brian- you've just made me last for the first time today :-)

Got the 'Anti-Hijack' and 'Unlock on Key Removal' switched on by my dealer when I took the car in for it's first service!... No Charge! :)

If only they were all like that.

Mine decided changing the steering weight would effect the cars airbag system and cause it to deploy late, and he doesnt have the right system to change the locking modes

Eh? Why would skoda/VAG give you the option to change something if it would have a negative effect???

on a similar note. While mine was in for service on wednesday I had my brake, steering and xds settings changed. No extra charge.

Exactly. I should of mentioned the lighter steering weight for the disabled, to see if he thought that made the airbag deploy even faster. Id heard enough though, and didnt want him touching my car at all.

What steering weight did you go for mate?

I asked for the vrs/gti mode for everything. My xds is on the middle setting. Cant really find a difference to be honest. My brakes havent improved like I thought they would. Process of elimination and all that.

But yeah. Gti/vrs settings for steering and brake assistance. Thats what I asked for anyway....

So that will have probably been 'Nothing Changed',

just as it was all at on Factory Setting.

A list of available changes would be really interesting. Having the doors lock automatically at 15 MPH and unlock when the ignition key is withdrawn would be handy.  I'm just getting used to pressing the keyfob twice to open all the doors so can live with that. I wouldn't want to alter the steering or brakes.

Would you be able to use this to alter what is displayed on the little screen between the speedo and rev counter?  I would like the oil temperature displayed below the average MPG figure rather than having to flip back and  forth.  Incidentally, the "clock face" and the digital oil temperature don't ever appear to agree - is this normal?

If you mean the Coolant Temp showing at around 90 *oC & the Oil Temp at higher Temps.

Thats because the Coolant is cooled by the Radiators and fans and kept at the Efficient Temperature,

its purpose to bring the Oil Temperature back down,  ie Cool the Oil which can get hot.

'Autolock',

when enabled activates at about 15 km/h so under 10 mph.

How do you enable autolock?

Is there any way i can get the the oil temp to display under the average mpg figure?

Which is more important - coolant or oil temp?

A dealer will enable the Autolock.

Once you start the car and it warms up the coolants going to stay pretty constant at 88-92 *oC unless there is a fault.

I have the Oil Temp Showing all the time.

Takes what it takes by weather to get to an indicated 50*oC , 5 miles or so in summer.

then 88-92 *oC,

then up to what ever by the cars speed, load, weather etc, 94, 96, 98, 100*0C. and above.

but as long as its back down again once you slow down again, everything working fine.

It really is Quite a good Cooling System with the Twincharger system ,

But the engine is really only efficient when warmed up.

Until then it runs rich.  So obviously its warmed up quicker in warmer weather.

I take it pretty gently until the coolant is at 90 and the oil temp is at least 70. 250 mile trip today mostly at 70 mph, 22 degrees outside temp. Coolant hit 90 and stayed there, oil was about 97 to 99 - hit 100 once.  I like to keep an eye on the oil temp but also on the average mpg which is why I would like them shown together - is this possible?

Not to my knowledge.

I like to Hypermile, but i can not do it watching Average MPG.

(i just click back and fore during a journey, you get to know what it does,

and oil Temperature is a good guide IME.)

The coolant is pretty quickly at 88-90 *oC

That how engines work, the thermostat stays closed to get the Coolant to temperature to get the Oil to Temperature.

Once the thermostat opens fully, coolant circulates.

Just a few minutes or miles.

it takes lots longer until the oils at that Temperature,

Then the System always cools Coolant, to cool Oil, & Oil is a Coolant as well.

That is basically how Internal Combustion Engines work.

Air Cooled, or Water (Coolant) Cooled.

* The Oil & the Fuel used can have the Oil Temp a few degrees different (lower)

and that can improve the Economy, even when driving Sportingly,

& Castrol is not Good Oil IMO.  or Quantum as Skoda Dealers often use. Same thing as Castrol.*

  • 1 month later...

Can somebody take up the job and make this into a sticky with a list of things that can be done on the vrs and how please. As I want to change a few things on the car and some other members could use it

Can't be bothered to search for it but I believe there is a thread about the VAGCOM changes like XDS etc.

SeaGoat, your vRS brand new? Your oil temps should not be getting that high at steady 70mph cruise, unless you were in heavy traffic.

I've got some things changed now

SeaGoat, if you are changing things, you don't have to live with pressing the keyfob twice to open all doors if you don't want it. Andy
