VRS suspension replacement advice

Featured Replies

My 06 VRS suspension is way past its sell-by date and proving less than useful on 97k (I've only had the car since 95k so it's not totally my fault!). It reminds me of the old 'Mr Soft' Softmints advert at times, and is in need of attention.

As usual the old beer tokens are very thin on the ground so there is no chance of any major upgrade and my options are very limited. I was going for standard replacement shocks from local and trusted source - probably Sachs or similar all round - which would probably run at around the £200 mark, though I haven't called for exact pricing/makes yet.

Then I stumbled upon this:

Any ideas or experience? Any good or would I be better off with standard - bearing in mind I know standard VRS isn't the best.

I'm not bothered about lowering the car or making it harder/firmer. If I could improve the handling that would be a benefit - but considering the sogginess I have at present then that wouldn't be difficult anyway.

Thanks

Coilovers are for track use really unless you spend above £1k on a setup with adjustable dampening etc... a £190 set of coilovers will give you a rock solid ride.

Better off with a slight drop on eibach springs and refreshed shocks. One of my friends had a setup like this on his Golf then said he ruined the handling by whacking cheap coilovers on it...

There is no damage to the springs, just the dampers that have lost their effectiveness. Is it really necessary to run to the expense of spring replacement?

if you are not bothered with lowering you will be better off sticking with just replacing the shocks, as £200 sounds a bit too cheap for decent  coilovers.  Something like Bilstein B4s or Sachs shocks should be within your £200 budget
