Turbos

Featured Replies

Whats peoples views on using 2nd hand turbos? The one on my car is getting a little noiser than what i'd like.

Mine's a 2 liter turbo diesel and got a bkd engine.

Well its a Lottery,

unless the vendor is guaranteeing it and going to refund you if its as bad as the one you are replacing.

So you will need to know your Turbos and check it as best you can.

cheers george.Apart from a scrap yard wares the best place to get a turbo from?

eBay is a good source for both private and business sellers.

GENERALLY sellers are genuine, check feedback ratings.

You can also try somewhere like part finder online.

You can also exchange yours for a reconditioned one, I think they give you a week or two to send yours back after you've received theirs.

I had a reconditioned turbo back in 2010 for my 2005/55 2.0 TDi BKD with only 38k on the clock. In my opinion it needed doing far too soon and Skoda wouldn't do anything to help. The car has just turned over 72k and admittedly has developeded a very slight siren noise but has not got any worse since I noticed it.

Reconditioned is the way to go if you can source a job well done, or go for a hybrid and up the ante!

Other option if you can manage without your car for a week, send your original off for a re-furb.  A decent indy should be able to do this.
