Noisy 2.0 vrs engine starting....

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

I am having a noisy starting vrs with the 2.0 petrol engine, only really noisy first thing in the morning slightly less once warmed.

Basically sounds like an old diesel on cranking prior to all firing up, no engine lights and runs just fine once going - no issue with the starting but just hellishly noisy as in juddery ...

Any suggestions would be great.

Ta!

If the noise sounds like a metallic rattle get it checked out as it could be the warning signs for a timing chain failure.

I know the mk1 vrs used to get the secondary air pump failing I'm not sure if the mk2 has a secondary air

pump though.

And checking for timing chain failure...it could be a tfsi belt driven :)

I have a belt driven 2007 TFSI. Mine rattled for a few months until the battery gave up. One day I turned the key, the engine turned maybe twice at the most then rattled like it hadn't before, but didn't start this time and it wouldn't even turn over again. New battery and it hasn't rattled since.

Doesnt the DMF rattle on these when starting?. Mine appears to and has done for over 2 years now.

I think he has a 2006 Octavia II vRS with the TFSI engine.

Yes TFSI 2.0L petrol engine.

I have found the engine cover is a little loose, but thats not the cause i'm sure - yes if it was the 1.8 I would suspect the 2nd air pump but I'm nt sure if these have it?

All i know its properly annoying!

Mine does exactly the same only on cold start I took it back to skoda and they said it's common, didn't say what it was though apart from nothing to worry about.
