Octavia II VRS - Rattle From Underneath

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I have noticed a loud metallic rattle when going over bumps, it sounds very much like a broken spring so I've jacked the car up and inspected all four springs and drop links and there is no problem. I've just had a cat back exhaust fitted to but I've also checked that full length for loose brackets and any clearance issues but again no problem.

What I did notice (by accident) was that if I banged the rear passenger side swing arm then I get a rattle, however if I grab it and try move it, there is no discernible movement. If I repeat this on the driver side rear swing arm there is no issue or noise, I'm assuming that this is a bush problem, has anybody else experienced this.

Cheers

Same issue, mine is going in to the local vag indie to check he suspects its the rarb bushes.

Let us know how you get on

Drop links would have been my guess having had it on the pool car at work (sounded like a bad exhaust rattle).

Have you checked the rear shock cover? That can come loose and rattle. Sounds like someone jingling a bunch of keys.

Check all the heat shield clips are attached. Mine sounded like a rattly exhaust turned out one of the clips was missing and the heat shield was loose. Sounded like a pebble in a bean can when going over rough roads.!

Rear brake stone guard? Make a hellish racket if they come loose. Just give em a poke to see if they're loose. They stay on the car but come off the mounting bolts.
