Hello, Fabia 1.2 12v with factory LPG conversion. Anyone come accross this before?

Featured Replies

Morning,

Brit living in Budapest and have been looking at a local dealer with about 10 Fabias all 2009 with the 1.2 12v engine and LPG obviously from a company that has gone bust!

Never had LPG before or knew that it could be fitted at the factory which is nice as the boot is free from massive tanks! Now, cars here are much more expensive than the UK and you can forget about TSI's as they are REALLY expensive still and these Fabias are the latest decently specced cars we have found as we really want ISOFIX........... Small engines rule here and it's hard to find anything relatively new as it is stupidly expensive to register a change of owner (looking at £150 to £300 depending on engine size) and there is no nearly new or 3 year and under market here. So seriously thinking about at least attempting to fund a change in car.....

Seems to be the opnion that this engine is pretty decent but the LPG side interests me as no idea as to its merits or otherwise.  Forgot to say this is at a decent price too with full SKoda service history which is very good! Current car is a 2004 Opel 1.2 astra estate which the father in law has effectively destroyed so am aware of what a very underpowered car feels like!! ;-) The skoda doesn't feel much smaller.....

Cheers for any info or advice (been through this forum with the search function from top to bottom!)

Can't say I've had a factory conversion before but I did have a 1.6 Octavia with a Landi Renzo aftermarket conversion. In general I loved having LPG. All things considered it did save a significant amount of fuel, but in truth not as much as anticipated. Firstly the engine uses petrol to start so it does use petrol until running temp is reached (not sure if that's true of all but our aftermarket system did.). That meant short journeys were generally on petrol (in the most part) so it needed a fair bit of petrol on top of LPG. We also found that the servicing was a necessity not a luxury and generally that was pricey as the LPG system required regular filter changes and fuel mixture tweaking. Other than that I preferred the filling up method. The car seemed perkier on LPG and generally I liked having it but be aware of those extra costs!

Hi, Cheers, for that.

It's just for pootling around and an occaisional longer trip but prob just back roads really. The main motorways are all toll roads and that can add up! Need to have a test drive but am swaying towards one of the lower mileage ones as the cheapest is around 118000 miles........ In the UK I was used to high power diesals so am seriously needing to retrain myself!!

Hi, I'm driving the same model combi, 2009, factory fitted. Bought 2nd hand 18 months with 40,000km. Just gone 100,000 km. Run it on LPG 95 % of the time. Nice car. No problems so far. The larger boot is great with kids and dog. I even manage to carry the spare with me. It's a decent sized car for what it is - the combi that is. I imagine the only different with the hatch is the boot space.

Be careful when cleaning the dash computer screen - I shorted the LCD on mine. Use damp or non-static cloths only! I've be calculating my KM total on a piece of paper on every fill up depending on the amount it takes to fill the LPG tank. JUst sorting myself out with a bluetooth OBD and Smartphone app this week to have easy access to my KMs. Must say, I've been pretty accurate with the sheet of paper so far all the same!

Enjoy if you get one. ( the savings that is!)
