Ring trip 16th May - 19th May

Featured Replies

Just a quick report of my recent trip to the Eifel region of Germany. As SWMBO was with me i was under strict instructions not to spend all our time at the track.

Arrived at Hull in good time with glorious weather forecast for the next few days.

Bye bye Hull! Next stop Zeebrugge after a very smooth over night crossing. Unfortunately our cabin was next to a group of very exited (40 years old +) cyclists clad in lycra who were acting like school kids until 2am. So the emergency ear plugs were put to good use.

This was them!

After docking in Zeebrugge we headed down to Spa for a stretch of legs and a quick look at the place. There was a classic car event on and you could just see them going though Eau rouge. Spa is just off the E42 and not the quickest way to the ring but a more enjoyable drive  than my normal all motorway  route via Kerpen which can be very boring.

The Ibiza parked outside the Spa police station.

The roads through Germany really do get very busy!

The next day Saturday 17th we watched a 4 hr VLN race. Well that was the plan until the boss got fed up watching cars go round and round all afternoon. I did my best to explain  that some of the cars were BMW Z4 GT3's and Merc SLS'S which happen to be very fast and very expensive but it didn't work. We managed 2 hrs in the end lol! This is Brunchen a popular viewing spot.

After the race we found a few casualties waiting to be picked up. I must of counted 10-12 cars being removed from the track and i only watched it for 2 hrs! This track takes no prisoners! Flugplatz.

This is Bergwerk and just a few yards from the terrible accident Niki Lauda suffered many years ago. The track was closed when this was taken btw. It's also very interesting what you find in the under growth around he track. Broken wheels , bits of bumpers, indicators, wing mirrors, broken head lights, broken wind screen glass and even a shock absorber.

The next day Sunday 18th we headed for a spin down the road to Cochem to pacify the bosses need for shops and peace and quite. The roads are rather nice. I've enjoyed many a ride on my R1 on these very roads and it just doesn't get any better especially if the weather is on your side.

There were many more pics but not on my  iphone camera.

While in Cochem and fuelled up on lots of cakes we decided to rent a couple of push bikes and ride along the Mosel river which was very very nice. Even the boss enjoyed it and it only cost me 10 euros per bike for as long as you want.Happy days!

Also found the off road centre which was full of Skoda Yeti's ! Must of been 20-30 of them. All looked almost new. The off road course looked pretty tough and the cars only had normal road tyres on that i could see. Unfortunately it was closed so i never got a chance to drive a yeti off road.

The track was now open for TF. It did close a lot due to diken heads crashing their cars all over the place!

Yes that would be a killer walk after some beers

It was so dark we nearly fell down the hill on the left hand side towards the playing field bit.
