Creaking throttle pedal.

Featured Replies

The throttle pedal, on my newish Yeti, is making a creaking /clicking noise on very small throttle openings.

Is it adviseable to give it a squirt of WD40?

Or is it a whinge at the Dealer under warranty issue?

Why do people think that WD40 is a lubricant?

It isn't. It is a "water displacement" product. If you want to lubricate something use oil or grease.

Personally I give the hinge, on the floor, a little spray with some white grease or a drop of light oil.

I suppose it is understandable if you consider its main active ingredient is fish oil. By white grease do you mean ptfe.

I am not sure what I would use as ideally,as you imply,  you would not want something thick and greasy that would attract grit, of which a fair amount would be found around your feet.

Taken from their web page,

Created especially for Industrial users, WD-40 Trigger Pro has the same great WD-40 formula, now in a Non-Aerosol can. Multi-purpose lubricant, remover, protector, moisture displacer and more. WD-40 non-aerosol formulas also dissolve adhesives, allowing easy removal of labels, tape, stickers, and excess bonding material.

I had a squeaking throttle on my Yeti when it was 1 year old.  I sprayed WD40 on it, which cured the problem, and it is still squeak-free after 6 months use.

Thanks sads45. I've just given mine a quick squirt, and the creaking pedal is no more.

I've instead have a creaking brake pedal and ahead been thinking of a liberal dose of CRC silicon or WD40.

WD40 must be a remarkable product as it produces a single product, it seems, and has been listed on the NYSE for decades.

Like Cokeacola it also has a 'secret' ingredient.

I wouldn't spray anything in that area

Dirt would stick to whatever it was, don't forget it's probably a potentiometer or the like hidden in a plastic housing. A good clean every now and then is required, mine gets clogged with mud quiet frequently as the dirt slides down the boot/shoe onto the pivot area.

I'm hoping VW have designed this properly to cater for muck over the live time of the vehicle :wonder:

ps for Llani G: if you let WD40 evaporate, you are left with a residue which looks like oil, tastes like ........ :giggle:
