Tips for stuck ball joint removal

What job are trying to do?

I'm replacing the lower arms and the ball joints.

Unfortunately the ball joints won't come out, I tried the method I linked in my original post but it hasn't worked. I'd rather not be removing the whole CV and everything as that means more new tools!

Although that is the "correct method" I heated the casting up and having undone the top nut about halfway (to stop it flying out) then I belted it with a copper mallet, came straight out

Sod all that messing around, loosen the nut to the shaft so its got abit of downwards pressure on it as on the pdf thing and then put full lock on and go find a big hammer,

when you have found one give the hub where the ball joint goes though it a smack or two and it should release,

Don't hit the ball joint or the nut you will be wasting your time, just the rounded hub bit

Thanks for the replies, will try that splitter thing.

Also as a substitute to the splitter a open ended spanner wider than ball joint pin/thread will do the same. With nut loose put spanner in gap and hit other end with hammer. Job done.

Yeah, I gave that a go Bowders, the dam thing refused to budge.

I think I needed a crow bar or something with a bit of meat to it though!

Angle grinder last resort.  Cut anything and everything you are replacing.  :D

I did get pretty angle grinder happy on the drivers side it must be said. It was the only way I could get the audi strut top bushings off!!! I had to angle grind it off, then carefully grind the audi barrel nut off which was scary.
