Noise when braking

Featured Replies

My Aunt has a Fabia 1.2 tsi and suffers from a lot of brake noise when car has stood for a day plus, I guess it's just rust forming on the discs. But it seems to happen a lot and doesn't ever go away. Car has done less than 10k and all breaks appear fine.

Is this a common problem on Fabias ?

Yes it is, surface corrosion forming in just a few hours on some discs,

and red with rust on some in a few days.

The noise should go away when you run with a touch of brakes on to clear the surface rust or do some Italian Tuning, but then your brake pads will be having a shorter life maybe.

If you have rear drums best get the Drum off and check them,

sometimes a return spring breaks on your brakes.

That's dreadful can anything be done, as not know any other car to suffer this is such a short space of time.

There are plenty, in the VWG Vehicles, Subaru , KIA, Hyundai now as well.

Just look around a Car Supermarket and you will see many Manufacturers with Discs that corrode easily and many that do not.

mine are rusty everyday, theres a dial on the steering wheel that turns the sound of the disks down  :giggle:

every car ive ever looked at will go rusty coloured in a day or two of standing but mine make what i can only describe as a grinding noise ALL the time, ive had them skimmed and its no better, my dealer now says they cant here it but they must be deaf coz any passenger i have asks if my brakes are faulty. i just turn up the music now

no doubt its something youll have to live with

I have replacement discs that cost £21 each that have never shown the slightest bit of rust and they are on a car that has done about 700 miles in a year.

It sits parked next to cars used weekly that have discs building up surface rust within hours of the car being parked or washed.

i wouldnt call it rust, its a rusty colour, id imagine its the metal reacting with air/moisture

just walk around any garage and they all have this, maybe yours have some special coating, no idea but ive never seen a car not do it especially in our climate

Does it still do it after 3 big Italian brake tunes (40 mph to nearly full stop)

Mines fine after 1 maybe 2

the mad monk,.

 what they all have is,

not the same type of discs,

I walk about always looking at discs, my  fettish, along with tyres,

and believe me there are car pounds and car parks with lots of cars with discs that do not readily corrode no matter how long they sit.

& then there are Manufacturers which fit discs that are all the same material and supplied by the same Brake Part Manufacturers.

Iis amazing how bad most rather expensive Audis look with rusty Discs and Corroding Calipers,

but they are not the only Premium Price Car maker with crappy discs or brake parts.
sometimes the Braking Surfaces are kind of OK, but the outer surfaces can be such a mess.

It is worth looking on a Subaru Forecourt and see just how bad some very young cars look.
