Gearbox or driveshaft

Featured Replies

Well the trusty daily derv octavia left me stranded on the side of the road tonight.

I came off the dual carriageway near where I live. Got to the roundabout at the top and as I pulled away from a standstill just about to take 2nd gear there was a loud 'clunk bang' noise and all drive was lost but engine still running.

So got it back home via a tow. Popped the bonnet and got the missus to put it in first gear and run it so I could check if the drive shafts were turning.

Only the n/s (passenger) side was turning. The other side from the gearbox was dead.

So do you think I will be looking at a new diff/box rebuild or is it likely to be the inner cv joint that's gone?

Anyone had or heard of a similar thing?

Has the cv joint come away from the gearbox?

Has the cv joint come away from the gearbox?

From the quick look I had last night no. All looked intact.

If it's all intact I would be more looking into gearbox side aorry

I was thinking that also when I saw it all intact. Well off to start dismantling :)
