Advice for a novice cleaner

Featured Replies

So it turns out I will probably take the 4.5 hours on my next wash! I bought some tidy kit today, taking advantage of the 3 for 2 in Halfords.

Got the Farecla clay mitt, a noodle standard wash mitt, a sheepskin polishing mitt, a large microfibre drying towel and a pair of glass rags, plus Autoglym wash, polish, seal and leather care all for £57 quid, plus two B&Q £1 10 litre buckets. I already had Autoglym glass cleaner so let's just hope for nice weather this weekend now and I will give it a go....

Thanks again for the advice, I feel comfortable with what I need to do now.

Cheers

Adam

Sounds good Adam - looking forward to seeing the results!

So the rain has finally stopped here and I have had a go. 3.5 hrs later and it looks pretty good if I say so myself. My arms are a bit tired but it wasn't too hard a job with the right gear I must admit.

I'll post some pictures later but just waiting for wax to dry before a final buff..

In terms of washing my mitts, will the washing machine be ok on a delicates wash? What about the clay mitt??

Thanks

Adam

Edit: some pictures added complete with a reflection of some handsome bloke...

Now I'm not a big cleaner as I can't use a pressure washer where I live and I do mega mileage, but the guide below should help you out (can't remember if you need to be a member or not). I see you've bought most of your kit but I'd add a grit guard which I didn't see.

When washing have one bucket with your shampoo in and the other with your grit guard and just some clean water, dip your mitt into the bucket with shampoo, clean your car, dip it into the other and clean your mitt on the grit guard as that will remove anything that may damage your car then rinse and repeat.
