90hp to 110hp - question

Featured Replies

HI all,

I have got 2 octavias, 1st is 110hp and second 90hp.

I would like to upgrade the 90 to 110 using parts of the 110 one.

What parts do need swap, to up-rate it? Will i need the remap after change?

If there is a topic to explain this already, please could you drop me a link to it.

Many thanks,

The main difference is the injectors, get a set from a 110 for your 90. How old is the 90 car?

90 is R-reg and 110 is T-reg.

so if it is the injectors, if i would purchase the.216 ones, would it get even better than 110?

Frankly, if you want to tune the 90, the easiest way is a stage 1 remap, which will give you about 120bhp rather than 110.

what i was actually thinking about was to uprate the 90 to 110 and then remap it. i could fit the .216 injector nozzles if that is an option.

the next step i might be going to take is to do de-cat.

I am a little bit worried as i have replaced the DMF with SMF 8k miles ago, and i am not sure if all of the above is still possible.

Its likely your 90 doesn't have a vnt turbo. Not sure if this would limit the tuning potential. The 110 and later 90s did have vnt.

therefore is it possible to swap the turbo as well? would the manifold fit? sorry for these newbie questions.

if you are going to all this hastle for an extra 20 bhp why dont you buy a pd 130/150 and toss that in the car instead, then that way you've got 40/60bhp more standard then with a remap even more, i took out my 110 asv lump and stuck a pd 150 in it and jezz what a difference, never knew a 8v diesel could be so fun

I don't think it would be that straightforward as you would need the valve to control the vnt actuator, pipework etc. and probably ECU. If you change the wcu you then need the immobiliser recoding or the engine won't run.

Maybe easy for you ;) Not for others haha !

So from what i gather, i can replace the nozzles, and possibly replace the turbo. Then re-map the ECU. Is this correct?

Ah got you.

In that case, I don't have part numbers, but there's a swap involving Vw 2.5TDi van injectors and an Audi diesel pump core, then remap on that which can take you to ~150bhp and should work as long as your 90 is one with the vnt and the diesel pump on the 90 and the 110 are compatible.

Many thanks for all your help! I will let you know how I did when it is all done.

I have got one more question, I have purchased the car, originally it had personalised reg plates on, now the ex-owner took these plates off and fitted the original plates back on. The log book that i have signed had the private plate numbers on it same as MOT cert and tax disc. Question is do I and if yes, how to register the car back to its original plate numbers.

Edited by AlbertS

seems like it's still registered on the private plates if the logbook is in your name with the private plate then the plates are yours

Agreed; If you have a V5 saying the registration is KEN 151T then you own that number, even though the vendor put plates saying, say, AB51 CDE on the car.

Well i have signed the V5 with the private numbers on it, so I will have to let the seller know to swap the plates first with DVLA before he does send the V5 away to them.

DVLA are not noted for their promptness in switching poser plates between vehicles. It's bad enough when an owner wants to change his car at a main dealer, and transfer the registration across -- takes months.

I'd say it was down to the vendor to do it, and if you have the V5 with the poser plate shown, I'd say it was yours full stop. If you want to do the decent thing with the previous owner, that's entirely up to you. Or yo may have already agreed with him that he keeps the reg mark -- even a verbal agreement is a contract.

The only important question is, what does the DVLA and your insurer think the vehicle registration is?

Yeah, the owner had taken his plates of the car and kept them, and fitted the date related plated to the car. Unfortunately the log book that i have signed had the priv plate number on it, not the date related one. I have now spoken with DVLA and what they are saying is, the new log book will come to me in post within 4-6 weeks, then i will have to decide if i want to go back to date related plates, and pay £80 to do so, or keep the plriv plates. I will speak with the seller later on to see if he is willing to cover the £80 payment.

I would suggest you keep documentation with you in case you are stopped after failing an ANPR check for insurance or car tax not matching the registration plates. DVLA can take a long time to get everything to match.
