I saw that discussed elsewhere, and it was suggested that the failed wheel isn't the standard fit equipment in the UK

Not very good press for VW if they don't sort the owner out! Scary stuff.

It's a good job "Big Ben" had his 'car bra' fitted. That must have saved him a few scratches.

Ouch. They will look curbed as the wheel rim will have sheared off the spokes looking at the inside of the wheel.

Scary stuff and hope vw will pay.

Somebody either under engineered those things or failed to X-ray test the cast wheel.

That's a tragic failure and you would not expect that even if Kerbed or hit a pot hole. Fail sure, but not like that.

Be very interesting to find out the verdict from the official report.

Even with a bad casting, I'd not have expected all 5 spokes to fail as a rule.

As others have said, for so much of the wheel to have failed, the metal itself must have been horrendous quality.   Heads are going to roll on VW's QC line if they find its the casting.
