Emden to Dealers - how long does it take ?

Featured Replies

Hi all, my vRS TDi hatch was built and left the factory on the 7th of May and was at Emden on the 10th - so how long does it take to come over and get to the dealer ?

Look you've only waited 5 months for them to make it and now you're in a rush ?

Sorry couldn't resist in all seriousness, mine only took a fortnight, factory to dealers but each ones different, there is a website mentioned on here somewhere that you can look up ships leaving and entering ports.

I'd have thought it should have been there before now.  Id got the impression, if it went smoothly then build to forecourt was 10 to 14 days .  (2 or 3 to get to Emden, 3 to 5 to get across the North sea and another couple to get to your dealer)

Mine took 3 weeks from factory to dealer, over a week of that it was sat in the docks in the UK.

I think it all depends upon the sailing from Emden I have seen reports of up to 3 weeks but it depends . Mine arrived in just over week to a Northants dealership.

General rule of thumb is 3 weeks from factory to dealers. A week from factory to Emden, a week sitting in Emden then getting to UK port and a week at UK port to dealer, but that is only rule of thumb. Busier times or Skoda wanting a push for registrations can speed up delivery but also (not in your case with an RS) delivery can take a bit longer if the car is taken from stock in Emden and it's wedged in a corner somewhere  ;)

You've also got to take in to consideration the shipping company will not want to be running to and fro with half empty ships so will also wait for a full load before leaving - well that's what I'm lead to believe.

Spoke to Skoda customer service today and despite the car having been built 3 weeks ago it still has not left Emden - it's been there for 15 days ! I keep thinking Jeremy Beadle is going to jump out on me at any minute, surely it MUST be a joke

My Car took 18 hours to get across the North Sea to North Shields, ship docked at about midday, car arrived at the dealers on transporter about 11am following day. (Distance from dock to dealers about 6 miles).

I know this because my brother drove past the transporter on A19 that was full of silver Skoda's. Asked the dealer in the afternoon when I went to get the Reg and sort 7 day insurance if they had had a delivery and he said they'd had 7/8 silver cars including mine delivered that morning.

Pick up 10am on Tuesday.

It all depends on tides and whether ship is full. They don't sail unless full, or nearly full. Then tides in Emden and

UK port can affect things as well as available berths to dock in. 15-days does seem a long time though.

My vRS is at Emden and I've been watching the marine traffic website and by the end of the week 6 ship loads will have been into Grimsby from Emden so they are obviously very busy at the moment.

However the OP doesn't state where in the country he/she is so it may be waiting for a sheerness ship, of which I've only seen 1 this week.

I hope my bw20 vrs was on that one to sheerness! Or maybe next week is Sheerness week.

Another ship, the EMS Highway currently in Emden showing as departure today, destination Grimsby for arrival tomorrow.

That'll be 3 ships arrived Saturday & Sunday alone so if the OP's car is going through Grimsby I'd like to think it should arrive soon, if it hasn't already.

Or if the OP is a southerner like me.... A lorry  from Grimsby with our cars needs to head down the M1!

Have any left for sheerness this weekend? Skoda told me there were 3. Only one left last week. I've been waiting since 15th

Nothing showing as expected in Sheerness. The Viking Constanza was last in Sheerness on the 21st, and has since then returned to Emden before going on to Grimsby. It's currently heading back to Emden, due to dock tomorrow afternoon.

In the meantime 3 other vessels, namely the EMS Highway, Neckar Highway and Schelde Highway have all made trip to or are currently en route to Grimsby.

Great. I assume my car will be going to sheerness if I am in bucks. So another long wait again. So much for saying 2-3 weeks. That obviously isn't going to happen :-(

Viking Constanza heading to Sheerness now and the schelde highway is en route to Grimsby again.

Thanks for the info. Missed that earlier. How did you find that. If you put sheerness or ended in marine traffic it doesn't show you. But put the name of the vessel in and it does.

Thats a lot of vessels to and from Emden and UK. Wonder if its all VW Group.

I found it as you did, looking at the vessels in particular.

Does any other manufacturer ship out of Emden? I'm sure the vw group as a whole has enough work to keep the ships busy at peak times.

Just phoned Skoda and my dealer. The car is still at Emden. My dealer is in Buckinghamshire but it will be shipped to Grimsby, I would have assumed it would have been shipped to Sheerness. Dealer says they can't do anything to speed it up until it gets across the water and they they can prioritize it to get to the dealers quickly.

Strange that, sheerness seems the obvious port for you.

Also makes me think that my own order is unlikely to have shipped if yours hasn't. Mine didn't make the dock in Emden until the 16th

Be interesting to see who's get to the dock first  :sun:

^^ Scrap that, my dealer just phoned. My car is in Grimsby!

Should be with him within a week.

Congrats!

Maybe I am waiting longer because mine was already built and at Emden when I bought it and you bought yours from scratch?
