Fuel Gauge & Central Locking Problems

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I've just ditched my Peugeot 206 and bought a 54 reg Fabia 1.4TDI.

I was looking for something really reliable and cheap on fuel and decided to go for it.

I've found two problems already. The first I knew about, which is that the fuel gauge is stuck. The guy who sold it reckoned it just needed the sensor cleaning. Can anyone help me with this please?

Also, I was only given one key. This is the basic key and not a fancy remote one. Could this be why it only operates the drivers side door? All the others have to be locked and unlocked manually. Is there a fix for this? Is it possible to get a new posh key that does everything? We had a look at the fuses, but none of the diagrams we found online seem to match the fusebox on the car.

I've done the sensible thing and ordered a Haynes manual which should arrive tomorrow.

I'm based in Manchester, so if anyone could give me any tips or recommend anywhere to get it looked at, I'd be really grateful.

You can unlock only the driver's door, but when all the doors are (manually) unlocked, is the central locking system working? Are all the doors locking or you also have to lock them one by one ?

If yes, use VCDS to disable the 'single door unlock' thing.

SINGLE DOOR UNLOCK

46 – Cent Convenience
07 - Recode

The single door unlock give an even number i.e 00064. To make all the doors unlock with one press, just add 1 i.e. 00065.

You should also be able to run a test for the instrument panel also and check if there is a problem with the fuel sensor (in the tank) or with the dials.

If it's only opening the driver's door with one push, it may open the others with 2 quick presses. That's what my "fancy keyfob" does for mine....

Fuel gauge stuck - not heard that one. Would suggest checking out the wiring before anythinh more drastic.

Thanks for your help. I think I may have solved the central locking problem though. I have a feeling it doesn't have it! I checked loads of stuff with the car and it didn't even occur to me to ask about the locks! I feel very stupid. Who knew they still made cars in 2004 without central locking? Not me...
