How the mongrel has been started this week

Featured Replies

Since I broke down last Tuesday night (starter motor wiring) this is how I have been starting the mongrel for the past 9 days, and finally been fixed today. :thumbup;

Essentially I start the car as normal with the key only I have to ensure in neutral, and then get under the bonnet and do this...

Video not the best as I was trying to concentrate more on starting the car than getting a good picture. :D

cant beat a bodge ;)

Gaffer tape, cable ties and some imagination can fix most things

That is a proper bodge. :D

Wonderful, though possibly confusing to any who think your car is standard. :)

No volts until you press it against the large fuse board thing.... Would call it battery top fuse board but with your car that's confusing. :) Power distribution panel?

It's the left over of what was usually on top of the battery, now left in the engine bay as part of my battery relocation exercise.

Actually this bodge would have been trickier with the battery still where it normally is. :D  Good old RAC got me mobile though so have them to thank for the bodge which worked very well indeed.

I can remember years ago on an old automatic Toyota people carrier, with the starter motor/battery and what not all underneath the passenger seat , having to lift the seat, pull back the access and then hit it with a hammer to get it started, worked every time until we finally replaced the starter motor.

Within reason - whatever works until you can afford to fix it!

I bet you triple check you're in neutral when you do that :P
