Throttle errors and car wont run.

Featured Replies

Hi all finally got the S3 intercooler fitted on 2.0 TSI 2 days ago and car drove home with no probs from the garage. Got back in it to drive to work the following morning and car wouldnt idle and was running badly. Its only 4 miles to work, but driving it home EPC and engine management lights on and throttle kept becoming inactive and had to pull over and leave the car about 15 seconds and following multiple tries it would start and got me home. Now im sure the TSI does auto throttle body alignment when you turn the engine off, so im guessing that there somehow a problem with the Throttle body or i maybe had a boost leak which the throttle body had adapted to over time (had idling issues before and changed MAF, but kind if sorted itself out after a few days) and now the cooler and pipework has been changed it doesnt know what to do. I am thinking i need a new Throttle body, but would rather have a search first to find out if there is anything i can check to confirm that i do need to change it (Know how VAGS are where a fix starts with one part and ends up at 10)

Here is the results from VCDS scan and any help gratefully appreciated.

Your voltages look quite low to me, maybe it's worth checking the battery & charging system.

+1

Check you haven't pulled any of the wires at the alternator.

Cheers lads and yea I will give it a check in a bit but think those voltage readings may be low because the car doesn't run. It just starts and then stalls straight away so I've tried to start it a few times now and so prob dropped the voltage.

I had exactly the same problem on mine, I just disconnected all of the throttle sensors and gave them a good clean, refitted and all was fine :)

Ok il give it a try aswell cheers. You clean the throttle body aswell?

Nope, didn't need to as the engine had only done 10K miles at the time ( replaced due to timing chain failure)

Let me know if it works for you...

Well cleaned all the connections to the throttle body but didn't seem to make a difference so on the spur of the moment I decided to unplug the maf and car started idling ok! Plugged it back in and throttle was surging. Had a spare maf lying about so chucked it on and once I knocked the car off the throttle auto adjusted all the error lights went off and car seems to be running right. We will see when I drive it properly tomoz evening but fingers crossed and hope it helps someone else in the future. Cheers for all the help lads
