Rear door lock

Featured Replies

The pressure’s on so would like to ask for help.

Took the car for its MOT yesterday, with everything ok except that the rear driver’s door doesn’t open from the outside and that’s a fail for lack of access. Not sure where 3 door cars stand on this, but apparently, if it’s on the car, it should work. Got 2 weeks before the existing ticket is up.

Situation

  1. 06 plate
  2. Door opens from catch on inside
  3. You can hear the deadlock working fine, both opening and shutting when you click the fob.
  4. ‘Clunky’ feel from outside door handle when you pull on it; markedly different from the feel from the working nearside rear door.
  5. Taken card off but faced with pop-riveted inner panel and window mechanism.

Questions

  1. With the deadlock working, is there a spring or lever mechanism on the lock assembly which might have broken/become disconnected?
  2. To get at the lock, does the window mechanism come off as one with the inner panel? Does taking of this inner panel run any risk of affecting the window opening system?
  3. Can someone talk me through how to get at the lock and does anyone have any experience of the likely fix for this?

I have done a search of the forum but can’t find a situation like this; most seem to point at electric problems, but in this case that seems to be all good as the deadlock is working. I’d like to think that it’s something mechanical as a quick look on the internet seems to suggest that replacement locks are £399 a go

Hope someone can help.

Have this same problem on my Altea passenger side rear door. Same as your symptoms and found some stuff on the SCN about it being a door control module needing replacement, and I dont think they are cheap. If I open mine from the inside then is seems to keep working then for most of that day.

So luckily so far have managed to get it through its MOT.
