Greenlight won't even quote me!

Featured Replies

After using all of the popular comparison sites I thought I'd give a few specialist insurers a go - especially as I'm thinking of fitting a tuning box.

Anyway, I tried to get a quote and got an email back saying that I fell outwith their criteria mainly due to the vehicle value! Ok, it's a 14 plate Octavia vRS but since they have a scheme with Mountune for Fords I find this a little strange!

I stay in a decent area, 14 years no claims, 37 and in a pretty decent job.

Oh and that's something else that I don't understand - A full licence with "pass plus" or AIM seems to make a difference but being allowed to rattle around the country with blues and twos makes no odds. Go figure!!

If we can give you a quote please make contact or PM me your number.

Answer, don't tune it and save a fortune!

Only joking.

Strange that- who do you insure with now?

Tried Aviva?

Keith,

I'm with Elephant and have been for a few years and they've been ok price wise.

The Mrs renewed with Churchill and was was 2/3 off her renewal so I made more of an effort to look about.

If I fit a tuning box I can get insurance from admiral or sky for about £360 which is pretty much the same as my renewal! Which is odd since admiral own elephant.

Without a box how does £178 sound??

CKI I will try and give you a bell tomorrow but it's difficult since I'm at work.

I asked for a quote from them and the best quote I'd previously had is £215 from Hastings Direct (Premier), with a £29 cashback (via Topcashback), they said they couldn't even get near the quote from Hastings.

However I'm more than a little concerned about going with Hastings as they did the insurance on a motorbike I had and they screwed that up, their reputation for fleecing you with steep & unnecessary fees for using the call centre is one of legend and an example of this is £35 to change either address/vehicle + £12,50 for using the call centre (£47,50) for one thing!  :swear: hell!

Mike,

Standard car at £178 sound very good.

Does that include Full NC cover, replacement car  and  legals etc.?

Hi,

Have you given us a try at all? If so how did you get on? If not please feel free to.

Regards,

Dan.

I got a call from Greenlight today about insuring my Golf.

Mods include, suspension, brakes, wheels, no interior, no airbags, bucket seats and harnesses, the guy said no problem £299 all in, I then mentioned that I hope to add a turbo later this year and he said no problem, keep the BHP to 350 or lower and we can insure you for £399..

 Quite good I thought.

Not legal, that was £30 extra.

However... Being the honest soul I am I did say that sometimes my car is at work over night - kind of obvious since the ambulance service runs 24/7 so they asked the post code and the quote doubled. It's only there over night 5 nights a month! I did ask if I started seeing someone and stayed over would I have to phone my insurance company to make sure its ok but he didn't see the funny side!

That's pretty fair! I think it's the value of the vehicle.

Dan,

I'm just off the phone and the girl I spoke to didn't even tell me what the quote was. Just that you couldn't compete. Pity.

I got that from several insurers.
