Changing from manual to auto

Featured Replies

I love my auto, it's so relaxed. The CVT is a great box and there is basically no gear changes as such. I can see the argument of a manual in a sports car or if you do track days, but even then most top end sports cars are no auto's with paddles.

problem is finding a good reliable auto. I was looking at the Alfa 159 q-tronics last night, apparently the box is made by a company part owned by Toyota and is in several Volvos. Might look at these as a new car.....

I can beat that, 1980 Mercury Capri (Mustang really,) 3.3 litre straight six, single 1-barrel carb, de-tuned to run on 87 octane unleaded. & the dreaded 3-speed autobox.  A whole 89 bhp @ 3300 rpm!

Omg what an absolute shed!

Crack me up these yank motors

It sounds bad, but you have to put that in context with how bad cars were back then compared to today......in 1980 our Dads were all driving around in Morris Marinas and bloody awful Austin Allegros and Maxis......usually with about 50bhp under the bonnet!
