Another strange DSG problem

Featured Replies

yesterday while trying to reverse off my drive, select reverse, handbrake/footbrake off, foot on gas and it started to move back then it was like a car that jumped out of gear, no 'R' on maxidot and pressing the go pedal did nothing to the revs (just ticking over) and the car started to roll forward

after the initial WTF i tried it again only for the same thing to happen

third time lucky i gave it some beans and it moved but not like a normal reverse, quite jumpy. once off the drive onto flat it moved forward no problems where again i had to reverse off the cul-de-sac, again it just rolled, no power and nothing on the maxidot. here i turned the engine off and on and it seemed ok but it put the s##ts up me

cars booked in tomz but i just wondered if its like anyone elses issues when pulling away etc, did your maxidot show any gear, did the car rev and not move or just like it was on tick-over?

b4 any1 asks, yes i let the needles do their sweepy thing b4 i started the engine, as i always do, so the ecu shouldn't have been confused

it wasn't that long ago when i tried to reverse off the drive and upon lowering the handbrake the car just cut out, prequel to its imminent demise?

Unfortunately at times the DSG seems to have a mind of it's own, nothing to do with driving style or whatever just and unknown glitch which is usually not traceable.

Hence your WTF- wait to you get the WTF "Brown Trouser" moment like other.

Lets hope you don't experience that.

With all the electronic wizardry therein (ECU) there is nothing built- in to pick up or RECORD the intermittent fault hiccup status.

That's the mystery unfortunately , as when working correctly(?) it's a very smooth box.

I once got stuck in an unfamiliar car-park in the dark. Given there was only one (half-hidden) exit, and it was a one-way entrance, I spent a couple of minutes constantly going from forward to reverse and back again at every false "exit". At one point, the car simply seemed to get stuck in neutral, revving away but going nowhere. Eventually, I shifted into tip-tronic manual mode, and that cleared it.

It hasn't happened since, so I have just put it down to something equivalent to a computer crash - the kind where you all but have to shut down a program, or pull the plug altogether, to clear it.

Hmm, I had a not too pleasant experience on a busy roundabout. Was nearing the exit but traffic in front meant I had to slow down. Was in D mode in 3rd, I went to change to 2nd manually but it had already started to change down so my action tried to select 1st gear. I was left with no drive at all and ended up stopping in the roundabout. Nothing fixed it until I turned the engine off and on again. I think it was more caused by me confusing the gearbox though, haven't had anything similar again

Bump for MidlifecrisisT.  re DSG Issues.

Sometime it is a one off brain fart the DSG has, and sometimes it is signs of issues with the Mechatronics Control Unit.

But since you have had the Service Campaign Work carried out on the DQ200 & Skoda / VW know there can be long term issues,

Contact Skoda UK Customer Services, Raise a Case, get a case Number and see what they want to do about having the Gearbox checked out by a Qualified Professional, and not just to see if there are Fault Codes, because that is unlikely, as Skoda / VW well know.
