Help, Amber Engine / Exhaust Control System Light

Featured Replies

Hi i have been a proud owner of my 07 plate 2ltr skoda octy vrs (petrol) for 2 months

Yesterday, i filled the tank full with sainsburys more expensive unleaded then took my brother out in the car and gave it a little bit of a blast. parked up with no lights / warnings) then i started the car up and left it ticking over for maybe 5 minutes, waiting for brother in law to take him to his house 40 miles away in Bromsgrove / Worcestershire. when I looked the exhaust control system light was on (looks like an engine management light). I stopped the car and checked oil it was low, so i topped it up and hoped it would go off) it took me the 40 miles without a glitch and also have took it out this morning and there is no sign of issues apart from the light being on)  anyone got any ideas what this could be..

(im currently in bromsgrove and willing to pay £20 to anyone that can turn light off (or check error codes for me) - little hard up for cash atm otherwise i would take it to garage.,

like i say i took it out on 5 miles run this morning and put my foot down a little to test power. All seems ok Apart from the amber warning light?

i have checked around and have seen that filling the tank up full could be the issue? is this true?

HEEEELLELLLLLLLPLPPPPPP :)

Kindest Regards Sam Mckenna..

start it a few more times.. i've had it appear in the past and it will self clear after 3-4 starts of the car with no issues.

was a coil pack on the way out for me that thew a few weird errors before it finally went.

hi, and thank you for your response, i have restarted the engine possibly 6 / 7 times and still the light stays.

Have a look on the VCDS owners map and then contact one of them vis a Pm.

There are literally hundreds of reasons for the light, as it is an engine management system warning light.

This is why the only real diagnosis can be done with the fault codes. As soon as the light is illuminated a fault code is automatically logged.

The local garage I use regularly will plug my car in for free (as he know's I use him for repeat servicing), however if you don't have the £40 (average) diagnostics fee most independants will charge then it may be worth checking the following thread for local members with VCDS...

hi, i have located and contacted a vcds owner and he shall meet me later ( A+++ ) for briskoda and its members :)

I got this once, possibly after overfilling the tank.

Showed an error on scanning that related to a valve on the fuel emissions charcoal canister.

Cleared it and it went away never to return but I've be careful never to go past the first click at the pump again.

Worst case seems to be a replacement charcoal canister which is a PITA but not the end of the world.

Get the error cleared and see how it goes.

BTW you can buy a basic code scanner that will let you read and clear them for less than £40 but it won't do the whole VCDS thing.

Again. Thank you all for your quick and helpful responses. Aspman i think your experience is probably the matter with mine. i hope a light / code reset shall sort the issue as i did take it past the first click. to round up to nearest pound. Which i shall not do again. I will update and let you all know how i got on, and give credit where credit is due to the briskoda vcds equipment owner. (if he is happy for me to do so..

Much thanks again.

I had a similar issue after over-filling my fuel tank. Came up P0441 EVAP System error code; changed the N80 valve and the issue was resolved.
