Thanks for that good read just shame mostly about petrol one

Generally there's not much that goes wrong with the diesel other than the common things across both like sawtoothing of the rear tyres which can be sorted with a hunter alignment. The tdi can eat front tyres if you're heavy footed though. I like mine.... got an indicated 58mpg over 200 miles to Aberystwyth and back today in a mix of traffic, accepting the maxidot is being optimistic it's still pretty impressive. Avoid the tdi if you only do short runs, but other than that the DPF won't be a problem as the CR engine doesn't suffer as much as many other makes. They hold their value too.... unlike the TSI

brilliant info mate...... i don't do short journeys I have a run around car for that and that great mpg why I've gone back to the diesels had old pd lump golf before...... well I'm a bit heavy footed but will keep an eye out for that..

I've just brought a 2011 VRS 2.0tdi with DSG gearbox in white lovely car to drive...

Good news then! I've not driven the dsg, but as always whether you choose dsg or manual both have their benefits. I put millars in mine, get it off ebay and it costs an extra 2p a litre and I only use esso or shell and it seems to run better for it. You'll soon find out if you're being heavy footed in the rain! Welcome to the 'under rated' club....

Thanks mate and thanks for you info looking forward to getting the VRS will post picture when it arrives

Your next experience will probably be with badge snobs, but get them in the passenger seat, put the dsg in manual mode and do some full on acceleration up through the box and their opinion will soon change!
