Noisy brakes :(

Featured Replies

Iv got a mk1 octavia vrs and the rear brakes were squeeking so i replaced the disks and pads.

Unfortunately the noise is still there. i can only describe it as a real loud deep squeek. they only squeek when im moving along slowly and i dont even have to press the brakes for it to start. its worse when its wet or quite warm. Also seems to be coming mainly from drivers side.

The wheels move freely when its jacked up but it doesnt squeek if you turn them by hand.

Any ideas on how to stop the noise would be appreiated as its really doing my head in

cheers

squeeks a tiny bit, barely noticable. not even half as bad as does when driving

What condition were the caliper slider pins in when you changed the pads. Have you tried the revised handbrake return springs at all yet?.

Copper ease on back of pads?

Iv replaced both handbrake cables because 1 was stretched, both rear calipers discs and pads. I still get the odd noise when I reverse or just pull off from when I first start it.

Mine has recently started doing this, was fine before disc and pad change and was ok a month or so after but now its squeaking when setting off after its been stood over night.

Ordered some of those springs from skoda just waiting in them coming in. I dont mind it too much just got a few things to sort just delays any mods that is the annoying part!

You got a part number for those springs? Have others had good results from them? I'm in the same position as you at the mo.

I just went into bickerton skoda in sheffield, told them what I wanted and knew what I was talking about. Its a well known modification but he did say hes had mixed reviews. Worth a try for a £5er :).

Nice one! Ye definitely worth a shot.

Add to the shopping list for tps lol

I've got a similar issue  - squeaking back brakes - this has been found to be due to the handbrake sticking on because the calipers are seizing. About to change the calipers. Does you handbrake work properly?

Mine works fine, its I just get the odd noise from when its been parked up. Then its random when it does it in reverse.

My car was doing the same, but I had a sticking caliper, no noise since changing it either in reverse or going forward  :whew:

iv copper greased the back of the pads and its had no effect. the handbrake works fine. the caliper slider pins looked to be in good shape aswell. I hadnt considered the handbrake return springs, i shall have a look at the weekend. I popped into the skoda dealer in york yesterday and asked if they had ever come across the problem and they said no never and they couldnt suggest what it might be.

Seems very common on here. Like I say iv had new everything so im going to give these springs a go.

What a surprise a dealer that hasn't seen a common fault. Problem is they never see cars over 3 years old, so they wouldn't see faults like this.

Try a independent specialist mate.
