Reversing Lights Problem

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Just noticed on my Mk1 Octavia VRS that when I put it in reverse, the reversing lights come on as they should until the clutch is disengaged and the car is actually moving backwards when they go off, as soon as I dip the clutch again they're fine. Bulbs obviously fine as I have light so long as the clutch is in. So I am guessing it is the reverse light switch, but just seems a little odd that the lights come on until the clutch is out.

Anyone had a similar problem?

I have had a towbar fitted recently, could this be a possible cause?

I wonder if you have a broken wire on the reversing light switch on the gearbox, and the slight movement of the engine/gearbox when the car is moving is enough to cause the circuit to fail.  Suggest getting that as a starting point.

yup, start at the gearbox switch.

I had the wire corrode and break in the plug on my old Cordoba.

the cable is about an inch too short to be comfortably un restrained on the loom.

I presumed it the switch, and bought a new one, then discovered the broken wires when i went to change it.

spliced in a foot of cable, and it was perfect.
