Extended warranty

Featured Replies

Anyone took extended warranty from Skoda? I have just bought 2 year old elegance DSG and having heard so many horror stories about DSG I wondered if extending warranty was a good idea. Also if anyone has extended how much did it cost?.

I have opted for the 2 year extended warranty on my new Superb which is being built next week :)

I have not done this just because the issues we read about the DSG gearboxes, after all you here the bad stories but nothing from the hundreds that never have issues, so that has not really influenced me...

What has done is the issues I have just had with my second car, my little "workhorse" Seat Ibiza.... 4 months out of warranty, and 60000 needed a new engine, lucky for me SEAT paid the bill, but if they had not, I would have had a £4000 bill to pay :( so as a precaution I have opted to pay the £600 for a 5 year/100000 mile warranty...

As I keep my cars around the 4-41/2 year mark, at least I have peace of mind.....

Thanks Stuart. I use mine for work so I was considering adding an extended warranty. It was just a case of cost and if I should go with Skoda or an external insurance company.

I hope I will never have to use the Skoda warranty, if the new car is as reliable as the 6 SEAT's I have had then I hope this is the case, but you never know.... I decided on the Skoda warranty as it is the same as the 3 years that comes with the car from new, so covers pretty much the same items, with external warranties you need to see what they cover, I think most may seem cheaper, but do you get the same level of cover?

I took delivery of my Elegance DSG 2 weeks ago, and I took out the 2 year extended warranty cost £645 but for peace of mind worth it.

Personally I wouldn't touch the skoda warranty with a dirty stick. If it's anything like the standard 3 year warranty you'll have to drag every single claim out of them while they try to wriggle out of paying. There's also so many exclusions that it's virtually worthless plus it doesn't cover wear and tear.

After much research I went with warranty direct. Cost me 450 or so for 2 years or 60k miles whichever is sooner and shortly after had a claim for 1200 for the aircon. Paid up no problem. Skoda on the other hand refused to even consider paying towards it even though I was only out of warranty by 2k miles, the car was only 2 years old and the problem had clearly been building for sometime while the car was in warranty.

You also won't have to get the car services at a mains dealer which was a big plus for me. So I saved on the warranty costs, got a better warranty which does cover wear and tear and now benefit from better and cheaper servicing. All round winner.

They make nice cars but their warranty isn't worth toffee.

Will all warranty companies, get a quote online and then let them stew for a couple of weeks. The good ones will ring you up and you will be able to negotiate a much cheaper deal than the original quote. Mine went from 750-600 to 450 paid in 4 instalments after a bit of banter.
