Power tree hard-wired..... finally

Featured Replies

Well - today i finally pulled my finger out and got on with hard-wiring the power for the in-car accessories.

For about 6 months i have been running a Snooper Zero, and my iPhone charger with adhoc loose cabling.

For over 12 months i've toyed with installing an HD dash cam.... but never got round to it!!!

After seeing my good mate Alan (BlueR36) get on and buy+install his HD dash cam this week - i thought i better sort my life out... :finger:  :giggle:  ;)

So - piggy back fuse wired up to a female cigarette socket to install in the fuse box area.

Run from this i have an extension block with 3 sockets and 1 USB.

Socket #1: Blackvue HD400ii with 32GB class 10 card

Socket #2: Snooper Zero

Socket #3: iPad/iPhone USB Brodit charger

USB socket: Free (i may drop a lead out for the works Blackberry)

All up and running within 40 mins and cabling tidied up nicely and pretty much out of sight.

Reviewed my first HD cam footage last night and pretty happy.

Some dash/screen reflections - but Sunday was a scorcher and very bright.

Thinking i may add a cheaper/lower spec version on the rear screen.

Anyone selling their Blackvue HD....a 380 or 400 perhaps?

Or alternatively - if you know where is good to buy - let me know.

Thanks.

64GB card arrived today and formatted using the GUIFORMAT tool online.

Working a treat.... so setup in full HD mode maximum resolution etc.

Just think i might test a small polarising filter to minimise refletions and glare.

Anyone else tried this?

So impressed with the Blackvue front HD cam..... ordered one for the rear!!

Easier to fit in the rear and drop the power lead into the boot +12V supply.

Approx 10 mins install from start to finish..... Live Wifi connection to the smartphone too.

Both HD cams now upgraded with 64GB class 10 using the GUIFORMAT tool - sorted!

Looking forward to a drive out to the Yorkshire Briskoda meet this Saturday and a good test run....

Anyone at all looked into adding a polarising filter on their blackvue or other dash cam?

Thinking of this type material, cut to size for the lens....

Worth a try but if I were you I wouldn't try it straight away on a Blackvue! Find a cheap old camera or something to test a bit

Was planning to just cut a strip and temporarily mount a section over the lens.

Nothing too permanent was planned for an initial test!  ;)

I'd go for it one observation is whether it would have any effect at night but you won't know till you try it

Indeed - i had the same concern...... the night mode and any detrimental effects. Agreed.

Well - tonight i unmounted the dr400 front and dr500 rear to retro-fit some polarising film.

Cut two pieces to size in rectangular shapes then verified polarisation over lens to windscreen.

Once correct polarisation was ascertained; i applied small double sided tape washers to locate and fit.

Dr400 shape is curved - so i have 2 small loom bands added to help the film form the correct shape.

Just need to review footage in a day or so i guess....

Polarising film added to Blackvue dash cams front and rear.... Before and after clarity shown in bottom 2 pics.

Should be sorted now

Reviewed first footage today after the addition of the polarising film on the DR400 and DR500.

The results are great, vastly improved and tested today - an especially bright summers day.

The camera exposure is much better and now much more what i would expect.

Night footage is the only issue perhaps; not tested as yet.
