Vrs front wheel ET's

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Im changing the wheels on my vrs & need to order adapters.

Specs of the wheels I'm going to be running are 9x19 et53 running 235/35 tyres, what I can't decide is whether to 15mm making to final ET 38 (front) or 20mm making it ET 33 (front).

The rears will be staggered.

Has any1 got pics of similar ET's on there car.

Many thanks

9x19" ET38 will barely fit the front with 225/35R19 tyres if the car is lowered. ET33 doesn't fit.

How do you mean will barely fit, In what way?

Thanks

I run 8.5x18's et25 and on the front they are snug.

I'll be swapping to 9.5x18 et38 front (keeps them sat the same as they are now) and et20 rear.

With you being on 19's I'd stick to et38 or higher and swap to 225 or 215 tyres as 235's are a bit wide if you want to run a fruity offset

And as you can see the rear setup on SNH's car fit nicely but the front looks a bit silly as there is a gap between arch and tyre as they probably rub as hell if lowered more...

User Zuhayb had 9x19" et33 speedlines and had to sell them because they did not fit correctly and rubbed when lowered with coilovers.

I have 9x19" et41 with 225/35R19 tyres and even they occasionally rub at the front.

It's all about fitment, 20x9 et 36 front and 41 rear.

Sits the same as drive height as the below pictures.

At et 41 on the 20" wheels, they made contact with the strut, so I had to spade them, bentleys did not at et41, I put this down to strut design. Et 33 will sit terrible on 9j, et 38 sounds good. No modifications to my arches what so ever. Just trimmed liners.

Hope that helps. Jon

But 235 is the minimum recommended tyre width for 9" rims.  For the wheel widths being discussed here although the minimum tyre width recommended by the various tyre manufactures vary slightly but they all state that for road tyres the tyre width should always be wider than the wheel.  This ensures that the tyre sidewall is being run within its design parameters.

Who fits the tyres for you guys who want lowered cars with wide wheels and hence fit undersized tyres?

But by your argument your car wasn't designed to have 9" wide wheels fitted, although your going to do it, stretched tyres have been around for years, I've run them on my cars for as long as I've driven and never had problems, fact is, if you want a low car on wide wheels, you need smaller tyres, OR have your arches pulled all round. Jon

Edit, what stud pattern are the wheels You have in mind??

15mm adaptors are a night mare in my experience, they are the thinnest you can get adapters and not many places sell them now as there dangerous.

there normally aluminium, and because of the width there's no room for the manufacturers to use stainless inserts so they simply drill and tap the holes, these can be threaded very easily as they are very weak, you will also have to find short bolts so they don't butt out against your hubs and pull the thread out of the adapter when tightening them up, or cut your old ones down for the same reason, over tightening them will lead to the same problem of pulling the threads out,

You can have adapters machined from steel instead as it's much much stronger, I had some made for a set of rare Breytons I ran on my vr6, I didn't have a problem with them in 12 months.

Just something to bear in mind that's all.

Hi Jon

I love yours on the bentleys & if I could afford it that's what I'd run.

Thanks for the advice think I'm gonna go with ET38 but think 215/35 are to skinny for my liking so will prob go with 225/35.

The good thing with bentleys is that they are straight bolt on, 5x112 57.1 centre bore, you can use standard bolts too, and every bentley wheel is the same et, there all et 41, you could in theory run 4 different designs of bentley 19x9 and they would all sit the same.

Shop around for them, I got that set with new tyres (well a little used 5mm+ tread) for £670. I had to collect them but it only cost me £20 in fuel, ;) jon

Will keep my eyes open, if u should see a set forsale would you give me a heads up.

I shall.

Although it sits level all round when measured the Fronts are going down a bit more this weekend, a few people have mentioned the front gap lol. it will no doubt catch due to them being a low et but the arches will be flared.

Which is one of the reasons for him to stay 38 or above :)

Those Bentleys suit it best out the lot, looks spot on. I see the rials have gone, I hope something nice is replacing them ;)
