New Jaguar XE

Featured Replies

It's believed that all these top spec middle sized vehicles are in for a hiding when the new Jaguar XE comes into production, then there will be a serious price war to shift the metal.

Well the first information and teaser pictures are being released ahead of the launch next year#:

  • First Jaguar to be constructed on all new aluminium architecture
  • Provide power and refinement of a Jaguar with less than 100g/km of CO emissions

Here’s a first glimpse of the new XE, camouflaged with a specially developed wrap which shows off its Advanced Aluminium Architecture:

One motoring journalist has already been quoted as saying "BMW bosses should be seriously worried, because the XE looks a world-beater".

If this is on-par with the XF then I agree it could be a brilliant car and would offer some serious competition to the high end Octavia L&K, Insignia, 3 Series, Mondeo et al

Please put the popnup gear selector in. Please!!

Hello, one of those could be a very nice replacement for the a3 saloon in a couple of years time.

It should be a nice/intelligent alternative to the usual suspects, not sure why but it reminds me of a NASCAR race car. I think this segment has been ripe for a serious challenger to come and shake it up for a good while, although I was hoping it was going to be Alfa Romeo.

Hard to tell too much from the camo but I like the front, not sure about the back.

I didn't like the XF when it first came out but it's really grown on me.

You'd hope so wouldn't you - I loved that when I had an XF for the day. Kids loved it more though!

I'd say it was a class above - A4 size. Or are you looking at it as a replacement for yours?

Appreciate it's difficult to tell but early indications are that it looks good. Wonder if they'll do an estate version? IMO the XF Sportbrake looks stunning.

My Superb is due for replacement late next year (company car) and I'm hoping / praying that they put this on the list. Make an interesting mix with potential new Superb, this, plus anything that BMW choose to release (is another 5 Series due?)

Jag seem to be going down the BMW Audi and Merc route of styling most of there cars the same and just altering the size eg from any distance it's quite difficult to distinguish an A4 from anA6 or a 3 from a 5 series and so it seems that in the future the same will apply with XE and XF

They are quite nice to sit it, dash is laid out well etc. I think they will do very well indeed :)

I love Jag and can't wait to see the finished look

They do look quite smart. Lots of new features and technology.

Spied in testing:

I was in the same camp as Aspman, I didn't like the new look Jag, but now, I like it. Reviews are good and reliability is right up there.

RWD as well and I would for sure pick a Jag over a BMW!

It reminds too much of a C-Class Merc..

Back looks squished and the front looks sad. Not a fan in camo...

Not a great fan of the small grille either... I prefer the larger grille on the XF.

Got one on my ramp at work :)

Spied in testing:

Saw this about last week on the A45.

Also seen the new discovery and Freelander test cars recently as well.

Freelander is dead now, won't be a FL3

Discovery Sport is its replacement.

I quite like most JLR products, but wouldn't buy new due to reliability concerns.

Land Rovers are famous for it (had enough of my own issues previously) and the people I've known with new Jags have had issues.  Both F types, one of which got given his money back...

For me, having four or five faults in the first year would take the shine off spending all that money.

Fingers cross the reliability is improving and will be good.

Must have been a mule for something else.

Was Freelander sized, but didn't look like the current one. More like a smaller version of the new discovery.

Unless there's a defender/dc100 mule/test vehicle now running on the test routes.

Saw an S type in the week that only had parts if the front and rear covered in camo. Facelift or sport version?

That will be the Discovery Sport (the replacement for the FL2). Quite a few of them about now.

Totally agree with this. I'd like a jaguar XF Sportbrake and I like the idea of the new XE. However, Out of the five friends that's owned them, two had Discovery 3's and two had last gen Range Rovers... Both the Range Rovers experienced failure of their air suspension system, engine lights on repeatedly and one had the injectors replaced and a new turbo installed just before he got shot of it (with less than 30k on the clock but was too worried about the warranty coming to an end at 36 months), knocking from the front (suspected suspension issue but never cured after several visits to the dealers), terrain response system failure and generally lots of electrical gremlins and a couple of water ingress issues. Also, two freelander owning neighbours have both had issues; one needing a new 1.8 petrol enine at less than 20k due to oil starvtion/pump failure! My best mate had a nicely specced jaguar XF twin turbo diesel and touch wood, that was pretty much faultless, although he only owned it for around 9 months in fairness. But it does put me off ownership of the brand overall tbh.

I guess I look at it in a pretty simple way. I bought a £16.8k Fiesta 1.6 TDCi in 2008 - I actually paid just over 11k for it and its only ever given me one small issue in 50k miles and nearly seven years of ownership. If I'm being asked to spend four or five times its value on a posher car, I expect at least equal reliability!

The Jags are supposedly up near the top reliability wise. Its the Land Rovers that seem to be struggling
