Cycle Route planner app.

Featured Replies

I'm starting training for a 100km charity cycle challenge in September.

Do you know of an app that can generate a circular cycle route that can then be used for directions a la stanav?

I'm working away from home and therefore have limited local knowledge, hence the need for the 'satnav' element.

Edit: Android device compatible please!!

TIA

Have you tried map my ride? I've heard others that have used it and seem to say it's alright. Personally I use my garmin 800, very good investment!

Not tried anything as yet. That app looks good. It's unclear whether it will generate a route though?

if you sign up to Strava (its free) then you can use that to actually generate a route for you. You wont find many apps or sites that will actually choose your route for you as they simply allow you to input a route and then turn it into t a file for a satnav to follow.

It also depends a lot on the type of satnav you plan to use - a generic GPS device, phone or cycling specific GPS computer?

Good luck on the ride. 100km might seem a long way at the start but ride as much as you possibly can and you'll find you are banging out that distance in no time at all ;)

To track my rides I use Endomondo but it only tracks.

Have a search for "Bike Hub Cycle Journey planner" - this appears to be able to generate A to B routes of up to a maximum of 100 miles. Haven't used so can't comment on it but would look like it uses cycle routing not standard road routing.

Have looked on www.mapmyride.com and there is the option to follow other routes that have been uploaded in the area and what appears to be a send to my phone option.

Route guidance wise, I'll use Google Maps or TomTom on my phone.

More a case of seeing other people's routes in an area and adjusting or adopting them I feel. Individual preferences will be different.

Then there's google mytracks.

I would use cycle route or mapmyride for your purposes. The other two are betetr "designers" than finders.

Where are you working? Or does it vary?
